So I guess that the news is right once in a while. I didn't expect for the storm to arrive this early in the day, even know I didn't think that we were going to get one anyway.
This storm must be going to get serious because the principal said over the intercom "all students report to the library, and take cover". This really bothered me because I have never had to take cover for a storm in my entire life. My best friend Liz Ganges was even a little freaked out.
Liz said to me "do you think that there is going to be a tornado."
"No I don't think so, but maybe there could be one on its way."
"we better get down to the library to take cover."
"Yes."
So we walked down to the library to take cover, I still don't see how the library is the safest place in the school. The principal was standing In the office of the library.
I tried to walk up to him to see what was going on but all that he said was "go take cover and I will explain everything to everyone later"
"okay" I replied. So me and Liz went and sat by all the other kids and took cover. Just when things started to get normal that is when they all went wrong. The last words that I remember was "students tak..." and that was what I heard before the tornado hit.
I woke up to bricks all over my head. Liz my best friend was not responding to me when I tried to get her attention, but she just sat there. It looked like a lot of people were not in good shape at all. I went to the Principal where he was standing before in the office of the library. He was not there he must of got caught in the tornado or something. So I went looking everywhere for him, I could not find him. So I went outside maybe he got flung outside by the tornado and if he did I do not think that he will be in good condition.
Sure enough he was outside laying on the ground I ran as fast as I could to get to him. He did respond to me, so that made me feel a little better.
The principal said "are you okay"
"yes I am fine".
"lets go inside and see how everyone is doing after this tragic incident?"
Well I guess that you could say that people were doing good for what happened. Many of my school mates were injured, but they should live through it. The principal and I went looking around to see if anyone needed help. Sure enough they did, so we helped them. I couldn't believe that amount of my classmates that had bricks on them.
The Principal and I split up because I wanted to find Liz. I went looking everywhere for her but I couldn't find her. I Ask the Principal if I could go up to the high school and look maybe she ended up there. I took some of my classmates with me to help find her. This was like finding a needle in a hay stack. We could not find her anywhere. Us students look high and low. We just didn't have any luck.
We walked back down to the middle school to see if the Principal found her. He said that he didn't find her yet. The Principal and us went to the office to get a middle school list of all the students. We helped the Principal by crossing of the students names as we found them. We all ready crossed out five of the names because they we ours names; Billy Jackson, Jack Carder, Mackenzie Smith, Ruth Anderson, And myself Lilly Mendel.
After being on a wild goose chase for my best friend we finally found her. She was over by the bathrooms trapped under bricks. The bathrooms were right next to the library. She was not responding to me at all. I said to her many times "LIZ GET UP"
She didn't answer to my several calls to her so I had the people that were with me help take the bricks off of her and take he to the nurse.
The nurse said that she had a few broken ribs, a broken femur, and a concussion. The nurse said that she was not sure if she had any damage in the brain. This really put me in shock because the way the nurse said that she might have brain damage wasn't a thing that you should mess around with. I mean she could die.
The nurse wanted to take precautions to make sure that she didn't have bleeding in the brain. If she did have bleeding in the brain she could die.
"This is a serious matter" the nurse said.
"Will she make it."
"It is to early to tell" the nurse replied like she didn't want me to think the worst.
As soon as I asked that last question there was no screwing around with Liz she needed to be looked at immediately. With in seconds the nurse called 911 to get and ambulance. That was the first time and hopefully the last time that I saw a friend get drove off in an ambulance.
