The Real Me

Chapter Six: Lifeless Body

I dedicate this chapter to Loew1000 Beacuse she was the one who started me on the path as a writer.

          I decided that I was going to ride with Lilly in the ambulance to the hospital. So I ran after the ambulance and final got them to stop I told the paramedics that I wanted to ride to the hospital with my best friend. At first the paramedics were not going to let me, I told the paramedics if they didn't let me I would show up at the hospital anyway. The paramedics finally let me get In. The paramedics said she should've been awake by now that made me very worried. The paramedics also said that if she didn't get up she was at risk of taking her last breath.

             They wheeled her into the hospital room. The doctor and all the nurses had a weird look on their face like they didn't what to tell me something. I now knew the pain a guiltiness of a love one on their death bed and when I say guiltiness I mean I sould've be able to help her. The doctor walk out of the hospital room and started to walk my way. I have watch the ER shows on T.V show I know that usually when the doctor comes out of the room and walks toward you there is not good news to be told.

             "Liz" the doctor said.

             "Yes"

         "I don't know how to say this but us as a hospital staff are eighty percent sure that Lilly is not going to make it."

           The wight of those words, (not going to make it) fells like a semi drove over you a million times. "Well doctor there is still a twenty percent chance that she will live."

             "You are right Liz but the only reason there is that chance is because she is on life support. We are considering taking her off of life support."

           "NO YOU-YOU CAN"T, YOU HAVE TO GIVE HER LIFE SUPPORT AND GIVE HER THE CHANCE SHE HAS!!" 

              "Okay Liz I will not take her off live support now but if in twenty-four hours she doesn't show signs of improvement she will be taken off of life support and you will have to say your goodbyes."

             "Okay doctor can I go into the room and spent that last few hours that I might have with her."

             "Yes Liz you can."

              I walk into the room and looked at the lifeless looking body of my friend. I sat by her bedside for hours and just talked to her hoping that a response would come but it never did. I looked at the clock, it was 10:30. I felt my eyelids get very heavy so I let myself go to sleep. My dream started when I was heading over to Lilly house to give her an invitation because it was almost the end of eight grade, which was when my birthday takes place. We pulled into her driveway. I walked up to the house and knocked on the door when I looked in I saw her getting beat very badly by her parents. I ran back to the car to tell my dad to call the cops and that is when the dream ended.

             I woke up and thought this would never happen because if she was being beaten then she would've been beaten before. So if she was beaten before so would've told me about it. I started to laugh at myself for even considering that it was real. 

             My morning started good considering that I might have a dead friend halfway through the day. I went to the kitchen in the hospital to buy some food to eat. I sat there and ate my sausage biscuits and gravy. As I was eating I thought about how life would be if she did die. I would have to find a new best friend, trust someone else with my secrets, and countless other things.

              This was one of those fancy hospitals where you could eat and take a shower also. That was the next thing that I had to do was take a shower but I didn't know where they were location I just knew the hospital had them. I walk up to one of the nurses and asked here where the bathrooms were. She told me to go down the hallway then take a right and after that I will see where it say bathrooms and showers. I took my time in the shower because the water was very warm and it felt so good. After I got out of the shower I got dressed, brushed my teeth, comb my hair, and headed back to Lilly's room.

              As I walked into the room I could see that the lifeless body that I saw the night before was not as lifeless this morning. I got one of the nurses because I wandered if she improved at all because of the way she looked. The nurse came in to the room hoping the same thing I was.

              "Well Liz it doesn't look like she has improved at all."

              "Okay. Do you think that she could live?"

              "I really don't think so there would almost have to be a miracle for her to survive."

              "Well thank you for coming in her to check."

           "No problem and Liz lets both pray that a miracle happens that way she can be up and walking again." 

           I was sitting by Lilly's bedside when she pick her head up. I was so shocked that I could barely talk.

              "Liz is that you" Lilly said.

              "YESSSS IT IS AND YOU MADE IT."

              I wanted to talk to her forever but I knew the doctors had to probably do surgery also a lot of other surgical things. So I ran to get the doctor.

             "What is the matter" the doctor said

             "NOTHING LETS JUST GET A MOVE ON IT IS LILLY."

             "O-okay."

           As the doctor walked into the room and saw that once a lifeless body was now very much an alive body, he started to get a smile on his face. 

           "See I told you to give her a chance."

           "Yes you were right but I can't talk we have to prepare her for surgery"

         "Nurses a miracle has happened, Lilly Mendel has made it! so start to prepare her for surgery NOW!"
