forever is a funny thing
it's short
like an epiphany
or a split second of emotion
after the storm.
forever is a silly thing
because it's lasting
like a universe
or a love you swear you share
and die with.
forever is a curious thing
because it's both
like a piece of cake
or a gnawing hunger
you live with.
but the thing is
no matter what forever you get
you leave it behind
and eventually outgrow it
like a child's abandoned toys.
you can never be young forever.
