She's Weird. She's Gorgeous.

She's weird.

Misty Waterflower is a big weirdo.

Weird is not really a bad thing, you know.

She was just different compared to the other girls here in Pallet Town.

She had a natural orange hair and green eyes. The rest of the people here were blondes and brunettes who either had black or brown eyes.

She hated wearing floral dresses. She refused to wear sandals and flats. She preferred playing with action figures instead of having tea parties.

The other girls didn't want to be her friend. She was messy and sweaty while they were prim and proper. They thought that she dressed weird and that she didn't belong. Some...well...a lot called her gross.

Sure, she talked with her mouth full. She picked her nose. If she had a runny nose, she would wipe her nose using the sleeves of her jacket.

Yeah...she wasn't really the cleanest person in the world. I didn't mind. I was kind of gross as a kid too.

Guys didn't like hanging out with her either. They thought she was too weird to be a girl, and yet too girl to play with them.

Especially my best friend, Gary Oak. He always made fun of her.

However, I don't see the reason why they despise her like that.

She was my friend.

Heck, I think I was her only friend here in Pallet.

Sure, she does all those, but she was someone who I got along with.

I thought she was unique. I thought she was funny. We fight every once in a while, but we laugh about it before the day ends.

I didn't care if she wasn't 'girly.' I thought that made her even cooler.

Here in Pallet, you barely see girls who didn't wear dresses. Almost every female there were too feminine. If you weren't like that, then something was wrong.

Misty was different.

Sadly, people despised her for that.

I remember getting into an argument with Gary because he went overboard with his making fun of Misty. Actually, all the kids went overboard.

I told them that there was nothing wrong Misty, and that she was super fun once they got to know her.

But then...they just didn't care.

I remember what one of the girls said to me.

Ash, we know that you're such a weirdo too. That's why you don't mind her. Maybe once you grow up, you'll realize how disgusting she is. Her family's not even from here. She's different. She's ugly. She's gross. She's weird! That's why her father left them! Oh, Ash. We'd despise you too, but you're from here. You're one of us. Also, you're a guy. It's okay for guys to be weird and gross.

I didn't get them.

Did it matter what gender you were?

Why was it so bad that she was different? That she was weird?

Even my mother thought that I should stop playing with Misty.

I remember sneaking off one night just so I can say hi to her.

It must've been tough for her. I can't imagine the pain she might be feeling here.

I hoped that it didn't last forever.
