5: Pain from non-existent memories (Movie 20 universe)

I've never watched Movie 20, so let's see how this goes. All I know is that it has a different canon from the original anime.

Misty readies herself for another gym battle. She heard that her next challenger is a kid from Pallet Town.

The doors of the battlefield opened, revealing three individuals.

"My name is Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town and I want to challenge the Cerulean Gym!" The kid, Ash Ketchum, announced.

Misty looked at him. Why does he seem so familiar? I'm sure it's the first time I've met him, but...it's like I know him. Like it's supposed to be with him, not the other two. Misty, shake this off. He's just another challenger.

Ash also had some thoughts. She seems pretty young for a gym leader. She looks like she could be my age! Wait...have I met her somewhere? I feel like I know her, but I'm certain it's the first time I've been here to Cerulean. There's no way I could've met her. Maybe from childhood? I don't know. Ash, focus. It's just like Pewter City all over again. You think the gym leader feels so familiar, but you know you've never met them. You can't be like this every gym battle.

The two positioned themselves in the battlefield. Ash's companions, Sorrel and Verity, took a seat at the bleachers. They were ready to cheer for Ash.

Misty looked at Sorrel and Verity. Them. They don't feel familiar to me. But Ash...why do I feel like I know you?

The referee took position and announced the beginning of the match.

Misty brings out her Starmie. Ash battles with Pikachu.

In spite of the lingering thoughts, they were focused in the battle. After all, they're not going to let some 'what ifs' stop them from making this battle an entertaining fight.

Soon, the Pokemon from both sides were exhausted. They've been throwing attacks left and right, and no one wants to give in just yet.

Eventually, Pikachu barely came out on top. The winner was Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town.

Ash cheered for his victory, and so did his two other friends. Misty approached him, handing him the well-deserved Cascade Badge.

The two looked into each other's eyes again.

"That was a good battle, Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town." Misty said as she extended her hand to him.

"Thanks, Misty. I hope we can battle again someday." Ash replied as he returned the handshake.

As the two held their hands (because of the handshake), random memories started flooding in their minds.

They saw each other, and they were together (with Brock of course). It wasn't in a gym battle or any battle tournament. It was them out on an adventure. They looked like they were having fun, as if they were the best of friends or maybe even more.

They soon released from their handshake as soon as Sorrel and Verity called out to them. They congratulated Ash and acknowledged Misty's strength on the battlefield.

Soon, Ash departed the gym with Sorrel and Verity. Misty had another challenger waiting, but she asked them to wait until tomorrow since she wasn't really in the mood for another fight.

As Misty got to her bedroom, she sat on her bed as she was lost in thought. Why did those thoughts come out? Were they real memories or just make believe? It's just...I saw myself being super happy with him. Honestly, I wish it were real.
