'You can't do this!' I cry out
'Agent Holt, you have been lying to me from the beginning. I would like to know how, but that's not why I asked you here.' Did he just call me Agent Holt? 'Not only did you betray Agent Coulson, but you have betrayed the entire of SHIELD. Loki is an enemy of the entire world, yet you go ahead and act as if he won't brutally slaughter you in you're sleep.' Agent Sitwell lectures me
'He's not the Loki you know.' I say just audible
I clearly pissed him off. He moves towards me leaning over the desk scowling at me 'I don't care if he's the President of the United States of America. He murdered your father in cold blood and you forgive him just like that? Are you sure you know what you are really doing?'
'I know what I'm doing, sir. He's not playing any sort of mind tricks with me. He couldn't even if he tried.'
He doesn't say anything, but I know what he's thinking.
But can she prove it?
You bet I can. 'You really don't trust me?'
'If you can prove to me that he is, as you say "Not the Loki I know" then I will let him go peacefully.'
'How long do I have?' I say calmly knowing it won't be very long.
'Three days.'
'Three days?' I repeat 'You're joking, surely?'
He frowns at me. It sends shivers down my spine. 'Do I look like I'm joking?'
I turn away and say 'No sir. I'll get it done.'
But how?
It's dark when I walk through the door. Loki is in bed asleep. Now might be my best chance of trying to find evidence of his innocence. I slip on my night gown and climb in next to him. I place my finger tips on the temples of his head and scan through his memories, until I come across the one I'm after.
Loki is injured. He looks weak. He hauls himself along in the dark. I don't know where he is, but it looks absolutely repulsive. A pair of feet stand in front of him. He looks up and his expression is terrified. He tries to back away but it's too late he begins to rise into the air and then something I really don't expect.
The sceptre that Loki used to kill my father is placed on his chest and a blue light flows towards his chest and his eyes turn completely black and then back to their original colour.
So I was right. Loki is innocent, he was just being controlled by his own weapon. He didn't mean to harm anybody. Even my father.
He was under the influence of his own device. Or was it even his? The battle of New York wasn't his fault, not really anyway.
I decide to have a bit of a poke about, even though I know I shouldn't I don't know a lot about his past. I find a memory of him and Thor playing together as children, about 10 or 11. Loki hasn't changed much, but Thor looks like a completely different person. Such a child.
They wield a wooden sword each and a wooden shield. The battle each other until Loki dramatically falls to the ground moaning. 'I'm dead!' he cries
'All hail the most amazing victor, Thor!' his brother cries triumphantly. Loki lays in the white marble trying to conceal chuckles. 'Silence, being! you are dead!' Thor howls out pointing his toy sword at the giggling Loki. Thor walks in circles thanking his invisible fans, brandishing his sword high in the air.
'Wait! the healers have saved me. I lung forth from the battle field and do away with your head!' Loki stands and lifts his sword high swinging powerfully and gently taps Thor on the neck.
Thor cocks his head to the side, pretending Loki just decapitated him and falls to the floor.
Then they both laugh together and run toward their mother, Frigga, who has been watching the whole thing.
It was truly a beautiful memory. So Thor and Loki really did love each other.
Loki turns over and I drop my head down onto the pillow and pretend to be asleep. He doesn't wake up though, thank goodness.
I stare at the clock and watch the hours tick by. How was I going to prove to Sitwell that the memory was true. I can't just say it, he wouldn't believe me. I would have to show it to him. Knowing that it would both leave Loki probably furious, but safe.
I lay my head on Loki's chest and fall asleep. What the hell am I going to do?
