Woojin was startled when he saw Minjae's pink cheeks and the big tears that didn't seem to stop rolling down her cheeks. He gulped, fumbling with Jibang in his hands. "What happened?" He repeated and Minjae let out a helpless yelp. Woojin furrowed his lips. "Minjae-ah," he whispered and stretched out his arm to give her comfort. She was the one who invited him to her house after his Mother had beaten him up once again. She was the only one who didn't seem to judge him for that. She cheered him up after he was down and now she seemed to be devastated because of something.
"My best friend" Minjae started and moved her body towards Woojin, to lean her head on his chest. His heart leapt at that. "I was just calling her because I needed advice on ... something, when I heard the Wicked Soundtrack in the background. She was practising for Mrs Hwang Drama Club and... And I tried to become a part of this Drama Club ever since I enrolled at Dangkye." Minjae confessed. "But every year Mrs Hwang tells me I am not good enough and I need more time." Minjae took a deep breath when another wave of tears rolled over her, leaving her a sobbing mess in Woojin's arms.
The boy cuddled her and gently caressed her back, listening to her words. "I know more Musicals, Plays and Movies than Choa. I know more famous Musical Directors and I had the chance to go to the Theatre and to Musicals than Choa. I know I am stupid and not that intelligent, but if no one gives me a chance how am I supposed to learn the script or anything?" Minjae asked and Woojin's heart felt heavy as he remembered the punishment he got for pushing Hyeongseop down the stairs.
He simply was added to the Drama Club while Minjae fought to become a part of it so badly.
"Y-You're not stupid, Minjae-ah," Woojin said after a while and Minjae looked up. She was still leaning against his chest and when she looked up she could see his sharp jawline and his warm brown eyes that were looking down on him. She bit her lip when she lifted her hand to gently touch his jawline. "Thanks for listening to my bullshit. It always kind of burdens me, when Choa is practising while I just sit around and play Overwatch." Minjae faked a chuckle and Woojin looked at her face.
"That wasn't bullshit. I mean you listened to my problems so why shouldn't I listen to yours? That's what friends are for, right?" Even saying the word friends was disgusting Woojin at this point. "Thank you, Woojin." Minjae finally smiled again and flicked Woojin's nose before standing up and turning off her PS4 and the TV. "We should sleep if we see your mother tomorrow." She said and bit her lip watching Woojin waddle over to his couch. He cuddled into the cushion and the blanket Minjae and Mrs Gong had prepared for him.
Minjae quickly went to turn off the light and jumped on her bed. "Good Night, Woojin!" She whispered in the dark and Woojin's heart skipped a beat. "G-Good Night." He whispered and closed his eyes. He was asleep immediately, while Minjae grabbed her phone and saw a message of Choa on her display. With a heavy heart, she unlocked the phone.
nan_niga_CHOA: Why did you hang up so suddenly? I wanted to know who the male was that was giving you problems!
minjaesshi: I said it's ok. No need to question any further.
nan_niga_CHOA: Something's not right. I can feel it, Minjae. You're not even texting with Stickers!
minjaesshi: I said it's ok!
nan_niga_CHOA: Jfc! I told you I was sick of you being jealous because of the Drama Club, Minjae! No need to stop talking to me. If you would've done better at the auditions we both would be practising for Wicked right now. But no, you rather hang out with boys WITHOUT TELLING YOUR BEST FRIEND!
Minjae felt guilty. She hated making Choa upset, no matter how upset Choa usually made her. Choa didn't even know how bad Minjae felt for always sucking at the Auditions so why would she understand her feelings? Minjae sighed and looked over to Woojin who was peacefully sleeping. She sat up and wiped her hair out of her face. Her eyes were filling with tears once more, knowing that Choa was now super upset with her. She quickly wiped the tears and concentrated on her answer to her best friend.
minjaesshi: I'm sorry, ok? I didn't mean to make you upset and shut up about this whole topic. I know I promised you to be less sensitive when it's about the Drama Club but I can't help it. I'm sorry that I sucked at the auditions. Park Woojin is having a sleepover at my place tonight and I just wanted to have some advice on how to handle boys and so on. But he's sleeping now so I'm fine. I am going to sleep as well. Please accept my apology. We'll see us on Monday.
And with the addition of a sad looking Polar Bear sticker, she sent the message to Choa before locking her phone and finally lying down between her Jibang dolls. After wiping the last few tears she finally fell asleep.
"Good Morning, Kids!" Mrs Gong called and opened the curtains just to get a load of cuss words from her daughter. "Gong Minjae, you shouldn't cuss in front of your friend. Good Morning, Woojin-ah. I hope you had a nice sleep." Mrs Gong smiled down at Woojin who looked at the Mother of his friend with tired eyes. "Ah, yes. Good Morning." He said with a crooked grin and sat up at the same time Minjae did.
Once the two of them locked eyes and saw their wild hairs and dark rings under their eyes they started laughing. Minjae held her stomach and pointed at Woojin. "You look like something weird!" She laughed and climbed out of her bed over to Woojin to drag him from the couch, but the boy was faster so they both crashed into a hug in the middle of the room.
Mrs Gong watched the two teenagers and tried to hide her smile. "Okay, okay." She smiled. "Let's have breakfast and then let's have a talk with Mrs Park," Jinhye said with a stern expression and looked at Woojin. "I took the freedom to call the Youth Welfare Office, Woojin-geun." Mrs Gong said and Woojin looked down. His lips started to tremble in the attempt to say something but no words managed to leave his lips.
Minjae took Woojin's hand and smiled softly. "It's going to be okay, I promise."
