Ava was stunned. Not like the amazed stunned, the horrified stunned.
The infirmary was the nicest building in the entire town. Everything else was runned down and tattered. It pained Ava to have to see the place where the sweet little Ella had grown up.
And obviously everything Ava went near fixed itself.
Just my luck, Ava thought to herself, Now I'm gonna attract a crowd!
And Ava's luck just descended from there. Everything was just going wrong for her today! As Ava and Ella where walking down the broken streets (which obviously where fixed at Ava's touch), when they passed a family. There were three children, a mother and a father. Each wore tattered clothes and had dirt on their faces. They were sitting in a field to Ava's left, and the mother and father were digging up all the food they could find and gave all of it to their kids so they wouldn't starve.
Ava couldn't stand it. She couldn't just leave these people like this! She handed Ella one of her crutches so she could have a free hand. Then, she waved it.
The next thing Ava new, she was lying on the ground, groaning in pain, black spots dancing in her eyes. When the pain deceased, she realized the family was staring at her. Except they all looked different.
The family was no longer dirty. They were all wearing new, clean clothes. Sitting in front of them was a small sack of gold, and baskets of fresh food and a few canteens full of clean water. Slowly, smiles creeped onto all of the family's faces. Even Ella seemed to have a little twinkle of joy in her eyes. She bent over and helped Ava to her feet and handed her the other crutch and together the continued the tour, Ava mending everything in her path.
Ava's day didn't seem like it could get any worse, but it did. After Ella showed her the crumbling houses, the decaying rec center, the collapsing trade center, the severed structure that Ella called the cafeteria, and the moss covered docks, they finally ran into guards.
Ava knew by the expressions on their faces that she was in trouble. She realized that the guards probably ordered Ella not to let Ava leave the infirmary, but she deliberately disobeyed them.
Ava finally had enough strength to walk without the crutches, so she handed them to Ella and politely asked her to return home. Then she turned to face the soldiers.
"Hello," she said casually "How may I be of service?"
The guy that she was sure was the head guard stepped forward. "I am Stephen, one of the head guard in Wanisacra. Place all of your weapons on the ground in front of you, take a step back, and put your hands up. Let's do this the easy way and no one gets hurt."
These soldiers didn't frighten Ava at all. She knew she was more powerful, stronger, smarter, and more skilled in combat then all of these men combined. Her mind immediately came up with a plan. Ava slowly loaded all of her daggers, her sword, and a tiny squirt bottle of poison she'd found in her pocket into her backpack in front of her and took a step back, her hands hanging at her sides.
"Hands in the air!" Stephen said in a half shout.
"Um," Ava said, trying to sound innocent "I don't think that's a good idea. It might surprise you, or kill you." she gave them a devilish snair.
"Hands up!" Stephen repeated.
"If you insist." she sighed
All the guards had their swords and spears out now and when Ava put her hands up, the weapons went flying. As all the soldiers dogged each other's blades, while trying to grab at their own swords, Ava knelt by her bag and pulled it open. She grabbed her sword and the wooden dagger and then closed the bag and pulled it onto her shoulders. As soon as she finished, most of the soldiers had grabbed their weapons and turned to face her, Stephen in the front, looking particularly angry and also confused.
Ava slid the wooden knife into the scythe on her belt right as Stephen yelled "Charge!" All the guards ran at her and she drew her sword. Stephen was the first to reach her, and with one swift and powerful slash of her sword, Ava knocked Stephen's Iron sword from his hands and hit him over the head with the flat of her weapon and he collapsed.
This made all the other guards hesitate. Their leader had just been beaten by a woman! At this moment, Ava ran forward and as soon as she was ten yards away from the nearest soldier, she unscythed the wooden dagger and stabbed it into the freshly churned soil.
All of a sudden, a tiny earthquake made the ground shutter, causing all the guards fall to their knees. Then, the trees started to move. The branches joined together, weaving a tight cage around the guards. They stared at Ava in shock as the branches swallowed them into their earthy prison.
Ava stood up and slid the dagger back into its leather casing. She turned and glanced over her shoulder were Stephen was stirring and she muttered "Told ya so." Then started to run. As soon as Ava started to move her legs, she collapsed, panting. Pain seared in her body as she breathed heavily on her hands and knees. As she tried to stand, she realized that the reinforcements had come. While they were trying to free the caged soldiers, Stephen had gotten to his feet and retrieved his sword and was walking towards Ava. Once he had reached her, he said, "I wish I could kill you here and now, but everyone deserves a fair trial, even if it is pointless." And as soon as he finished, he slammed the flat of his sword in her head and said "How do you like it?" But Ava didn't hear him. She was already unconscious.
