I walk through the building doors and look around for a secretary or someone who can help me.

"Are you lost love?" A voice comes a few feet down.

I see a head pop around the corner and walk towards the person

"Hi, um I need to get my timetable. I'm new" I say, clearly rushed.

"Yes sure. Name?"

"Mia Hayes"

"M..Mary..Melissa..Mia..Mia Hayes. Okay, I got your file up. It seems like you're a new student, am I right?" She asks me. I did say that just then didn't I?

I nod

"Oh good, I'll give your timetable and take you around to the buildings where your classes will be held. You're lucky they're close to each other. Some students have to walk to the other end of the school for classes. The school might look small, but it really isn't" she smiles.

Great.

"Well, I'll print out the necessities and then we'll go"

I nod, thanking her. I won't be late, I have ten minutes till the bell rings and my first class starts. I really can't help the nauseating feeling in my stomach. It grows the more I think about it.

"Okay, take these and we're ready to go" she says handing me two pieces of paper. One my timetable, and the other a map of the school. She has highlighted the buildings which I have classes in and I smile in appreciation.

"You can call me Emily by the way, everyone does" she smiles at me

"Nice to meet you"I say awkwardly, I don't even know if that fits in context.

She nods in return and leads me towards the door. I follow after her as she walks me to a building labelled as Math. I guess that means I have maths in the morning on every Monday for ten weeks. I check my timetable. Double maths on Tuesday afternoon. Great.

"That building over there" she points to a dark blue building, "is your advanced biology room" she says

I nod.

She points to others along the way and I nod paying attention since I don't want to be lost on my first day of school. I notice she has colour coordinated the highlighters to the actual colour of the buildings on my map.

She's really nice.

"Your maths room is the furtherest away. The others are close by so you don't need to worry about getting lost" she smiles at me.

She leads me into the building and I see four doors each with a number on it. She walks me towards the door with a number 3 on it and knocks lightly.

My heart rate accelerated dramatically, sweat gathering in my palms and anxiety finally kicking in. I breathe air in rapidly, Emily notices and rubs my back.

"Class hasn't started yet. You'll be fine, they're all nice kids" she says with a smile

I nod frantically, thanking her.

The teacher opens the door and nods at Emily before she even says anything. He smiles at me, a warm and kind one.

"Well, come on in" he says

I walk into the room, and look around.

Nobody is here.

The anxiety leaves me and my heart steadies to a normal rate.

"See you later Mia" Emily says to me and waves.

I smile back at her as she takes her leave.

The teacher turns to me and stands a few feet away from me.
