I awoke with Clark's arms around me

I awoke with Clark's arms around me. His strong grasp allowed me to sleep soundly, my heart a comforting slow as I relaxed against him. A small glimmer of light trickled between barely cracked curtains, and my eyes fluttered open. I turned to glance at Clark's still body, and as he had the last time he'd stayed with me, he had already slipped into a change of clothes.

I lifted my chin, attempt to wriggle from his hold. His arms tightened, and I rolled my eyes. "Sleep for a few more hours," he whispered without opening his eyes.

Frowning, I rolled over to face him, propping myself on my elbow. "You promised we would look today."

"You deserve the sleep." He opened his blue-violet eyes to narrow them at me.

Rolling my own, I shook my head. "It's what I want."

He let go of me, but his hand trailed down my arm. I shivered under his gentle touch, closing my eyes as the familiar sensations of electricity and warmth crawled through my veins, lighting me up. "That's not fair," I murmured.

"You're the one that woke the sleeping beast." He smirked, the corner of his lip turning up and winking one of his eyes. Pushing himself up further, he looked me over. His eyes were feral, a gaze that made my skin crawl and my heart skip a few beats.

He leaned forward, putting her arm on my other side and entrapping me beneath him as he hovered his face over mine. I turned on to my back, looking up at him, the light from the window casting deep shadows against his features. "Happy birthday, Elizabeth." His voice was soft, and he leaned forward, brushing his lips against mine.

As quickly as he had come forward, he pushed away, rising to his feet and stretching his arms behind him. I turned my head to watch him, the sun behind him creating a golden halo against his dark hair.

He clicked his tongue. "C'mon, get up. You're the one that said we have things to do."

A breath escaped my lips. "Using my words against me?" I stood, rolling my shoulders back and wandering to my closet. I pulled out a sweater and jeans, but I didn't wander to the bathroom to change. I felt vulnerable under his gaze, and I glanced once over my shoulder, his eyes never leaving mine as I slipped the sweater over my head. "You're such an animal, Clark McCarley."

"Not as much as you, little wolf." Putting his shoes on, he pushed past me, and wandered into the hall.

Pulling my hair into a quick bun and putting my shoes on, I followed him. Cecilia's door was clicked shut, and I was sure she was remained sleeping inside.

I trailed him outside, and he opened the passenger door of his car for me. I took a seat, crossing my arms over my chest. Taking his seat, I looked at him. "Where will we start?"

He shrugged. "Where do you think?" he asked.

I chewed the inside of my lip. "I honestly don't know." I hated not knowing, but I wasn't sure where the ones we were looking for could be lurking. "The woman who attacked us last night left from the school, do you think her energy could still be lingering there?"
