Ader's pov

Celeste should be back by now. Something is wrong, she needs help. "Lalia!! I'm going to get Celeste!!" I shouted. A light, but strong and forceful voice replied "No you're not! She can handle herself. She's almost stronger than you already anyway!" I sighed and moved to the entrance of the large gothic style stone stronghold built into the mountain side where I live. Dawn is coming soon, I can feel it. I look down at the court yard hoping she was there, but all I found was the sentry locking the gate and heading indoors like I should, so I head to the great hall where I will sit until her safe return.

Garret's pov

This feels really weird, this change, but it's like the good type of weird. I can move faster, as well as see farther, and I feel stronger. However, the light seems to burn as it moves from behind the mountains. I'm still alive though, so I'm fine. This masked vampire is really beautiful from what I could see, I can only imagine what's under the mask. "Ah! The sun. Hurry, we need to get out of the light NOW!" Celeste hollered from ahead of me. "I know a place that has a cave." I yelled back. "It isn't far from here!" She looked back and nodded her head, yes, so I instantly planted my foot and turned my body, still sliding across the ground. I stepped down with my other foot and started running towards the cave. She was following next to me. We came to an immediate stop once we got to a clearing full of sunshine. There was a big hill with a cave in it, we could see a ladder and a hole in the back of it going deeper underground. I looked over to Celeste and said, "If we sprint our hardest, I think we will make it in alive." She turned her head, looking at me, before saying, "Yes we'll live, but with horrible burns. So run hard and fast, but don't stop until you hit the back of the cave." "I'll try." I hesitantly responded. Just before we started sprinting, the sun finished coming over the mountains and trees, blinding and burning both of us. We both screamed as we were sprinting. Tears were blinding me from the immense burning sensation. It was incomprehensible. My scream turned into a blood churning screech as it burned more. I hear a terrifyingly pained screech pass me up with crazy speed. I see Celeste pass me and slam into the back of the cave with a terrible bone snapping bang. She fell to the ground in a painful looking position. As I entered the cave, I see her skin already repairing itself slowly, just as I hit the wall. The darkness quickly overcomes me.

Celeste's pov

I woke up to the smell of burnt flesh, and a pounding head. I checked myself, making sure I healed properly. As usual, I healed perfectly, except for a barely visible white scar about the same color as my pale skin. I then checked Garret, who was passed out on the ground. He had scars still, but they were fading, and mostly from the dogs, not the sun. Good. I wonder how long it's been since we made for the cave, and that smell.... it's not us, it smells worse! "I feel like I was trampled by a herd of horses." I hear from behind me. I turn to Garret as he starts to sit up, he looks up at me and his eyes grow in size. "What? Is there a spider on my mask?!" I yelled out irritated. He shook his head as he answered, "No, there's a um, a chip in your mask." I stared at him as I reached up to my mask and felt it with my left hand. No damage on this side. As I slide my hand to the bottom right side of my mask, there was a section missing big enough that it showed the bottom right side of my lip. In embarrassment, I cover that part of my mask and look away, yelling aggravatedly, "That's more than a chip!!" Then I decided to change the subject. "What's that foul stench?" He frowned and replied " I don't know, but it's coming from the hole with the ladder. I wonder if it was turned into a sewer since the past few years I have been here." "Wanna check it out?" I asked with a grin. He gives me a weird look and said, "Sure, why not?" I went down first. The humidity changed, it's warmer down here but smells worse too. I look up and Garret finally gets down. Slowpoke. He turned to me and says with a cute blush, "Sorry, got stuck." I burst out laughing. I suddenly stopped because I recognized the walls. They were part of my home. But what would make this stench? Then it suddenly clicked, "Crap, let's get out of here. Follow me fast!" I shouted. You could hear the fear in my voice. As we started running you could hear multiple footsteps sprinting behind us. I was running as fast as I could without leaving Garret behind. We are reaching the end of the tunnel. You could see a big heavy iron door. I started yelling "Open the door. I'm out here!" I yelled this many times before we reached the door. Once we reached it, me and Garret began hitting the door and yelling for someone to open it. There was no handle on our side, but finally the eye slit on the door opened, revealing worn eyes, but they had a sparkle to them. They grew big as he realized what was happening. He yelled "Hold on." As we heard the door unlock, the things I feared rounded the corner. Garret looked back to see ghouls round the corner. Creatures that aren't alive but not dead. The heavy iron door opened enough that Garret and I could slip in barely. We turned and helped the guard shut the door. We got it closed by the time the ghouls got there. They began hitting the door as we helped put the iron beam into place to hold it shut. The guard sits down and then looks up at me and says, "Your father is worried about you. You should run up to the throne room and let him know you returned." David is always kind to me, even though he had the rougher job as a guard of the bottom passage. "Thanks David. If you didn't come, we wouldn't have been there much longer. I'll go to the throne room now." I said. "No thanks necessary, might want to take that friend with ya too though." David responded. I was already heading up the stairs dragging Garret along with me through a bunch of doors. Finally we stopped in front of the two large doors that were the entrance to the throne room. I turned to Garret and said, "I don't know what my father will say or do about you, so be ready." Then I turned and immediately pushed open the doors.
