Chapter Five
“Ha, Ha, Ha! Gotcha now, ya little brat!” A voice behind the tree said. I thought it was the man, but I wasn’t sure, so I didn’t speak just in case. I couldn’t believe I had tried to catch him, it seems like now he has caught me. A total backfire! Then I couldn’t contain my words and spoke back,
“Who are you? Why do you want me? I demand to know!”
“Oh!” he said.
“So you want to ask questions huh? Well you won’t be asking them for long!” then he came behind me and tied my hands together in the back. Then gaged me with a bandana. I was trying to yell, but I only sounded like I was mumbling. The man had a dark hooded coat on so I couldn’t see his face.
“Lord,” I whispered,
“Lord, help me.” My words faded in the wind. The guy put me on a horse a rode off. It was so hard not to fall off because my hands were tied behind my back. I was on the horse! Our horse! I was thrilled and totally scared at the same time. The horse was tied to the man’s horse. He galloped so fast, that I could hardly stay on. Then as was riding supposedly to my death, I heard a still small voice. I am with you. I didn’t know if was just in my head or what, but then I had the memory or when I was in church.
“Daddy!” I yelled as I was only five and ran to my father’s arms.
“Oh, Jessie.” He picked me up and spun my around.
“You are getting to be a big girl! Soon you will be as tall as your brother.” Then he touched me on the nose.
“Daddy, could I be as tall as you?”
“I don’t know, maybe you could ask God.” He pointed to my heart as I remembered one night when I was four, I had asked Jesus to be everything in me. I smiled back at him.
“Can I pray now Daddy?” I said. “Sure. Close your eyes and bow your head. We close our eyes so we can only focus on him, and we bow our head in respect to God.” I did as he said and then prayed,
“Lord help me always to be safe. Lord, will I get any taller? Thanks God, Amen. Now what did he saw Daddy?” then he pointed to my heart and said,
“Listen to a still small voice inside you. He will answer.”
I opened my eyes and I was back still on the horse galloping full speed. I whispered that simple prayer again,
“Lord help me always to be safe.” I felt as if I was going to be okay, and felt safe even though I was in a dire circumstance. I knew God would keep me safe.
We reached a big house with a brick rode leading up to the front door. I was shocked. There were trimmed bushes in the front and a big nice lake in the back. There was a giant horse stable as well. He took me off and led me inside. Ding, Dong! The doorbell rang. A servant opened the door and let us in. The man led me to a room and locked me in. The room had a large bed and nice drawers. It was a gest room, except that there were no windows, only a fan. I stayed far away from the bed and sat on the floor. Then I began to pray. I prayed for so long I prayed myself to sleep. By the time I woke up, a man was at my door. He looked familiar.
“Now Miss, we have to get you cleaned. You will be taken care of by this lady here.” She was a slave girl and took me to get washed. Still scared I remembered the words, I am with you. She bathed me and changed me and made me look like a fair madden. I tried to ask why I was here, but she didn’t speak.
