Chapter Six
“Jessica! Jessica!” I opened my eyes and sat up with a jolt.
“Wh-what?” I said looking at Henry.
“We need to go.” He said
“Go where? Why? The sun is just rising. What’s going on?” I spurted out.
“Look-I talked to your uncle and he agreed that it would be best if we left.” He whispered to me as he turned his head to look behind him.
“And by we, you mean me and you?” I asked cautiously.
“No. You me and Robin.” He said. That was a relief! I thought to myself.
“Your aunt has already packed your things, and your uncle has given me a map to go to one of his hideouts.” He said. I just hoped that we wouldn’t be gone too long. I would miss this house and my brother, even though him and David are going on that hunting trip.
Henry took my hand as we ran downstairs putting my bag onto a horse along with Robin’s things.
“If it makes you feel safer, the place is close to where James and David are hunting. I will inform them that you are near.” Uncle John said to us.
“I trust Henry. If he gives you two any trouble I will send your brothers. Just for safety I have sent one of the maids along. I trust her as well.” He smiled and hugged us. I was a little in tears.
“But Uncle John, I don’t want to leave! I love it here!” I said embracing him. He then whispered into my ear these words:
“I will return to you soon. It is only for your safety. We will get to the bottom of this.” Then we got on horseback and trotted off. The maid and Robin were there as well. Robin and me rode together and Henry and the maid rode separately. I looked back and Uncle John and Aunt Rachel were waving. I was sad.
We rode through the forest. It was beautiful. I heard the words, I love you, and knew God had known I was sad and spoke the words in my heart. Lead on those words I didn’t think on the bad things, but only the good. That surely bumped up my spirit. I watched the blue birds fly by and hear them chirp. I let out my hand and felt the leaves on the trees smelling the greenery all around us. I looked up and saw a ray of sunshine peeking through the trees and the wind blowing the leaves around making them look they were dancing! I smiled and tucked my hair behind my ears. We rode on and I felt better.
When it came time to take a break, we all came toward a river and Henry, who had been leading with the map in his hand, stopped and got off first.
“Lets take a break.” He said smiling. I sat down beside the river and scooped up some water in my hand and washed it over my face. The horses had come over and were drinking the water from the stream. Henry came over and sat down beside me.
“Look, I’m sorry I made you leave. It’s not that bad.” He said pointing at the trees.
“Uncle John and Aunt Rachel are like my parents. They are the only things I have to guide me know. I hope you know that they are counting on you, and, if you step out of place, they will not trust you.” I paused and looked at him. He was listening with a strait face nodding some. Then I spoke on.
“Don’t do anything stupid.” I said laughing and got up slapping him on the back.
“I won’t.” He replied back as I was going back on the horse. My thoughts were getting the best of me. I was begging to think he was falling for me. Surely he was not though.
