side note, I'm still getting used to the new paladin set up so I'll try to transition into the new one soon, but for the time being it's gonna be the old one.
also there's a ship in here that mighty make you uncomfortable so watch out? laST THING I SWEAR: italics is typically what the person (cough lance cough) is thinking unless it's like song lyrics or it just needed to be italics ;)

It was just another day in space, just space doing whatever space does, until a distress call arrived at the castle. Of course the paladins recived the call and rushed over, but when they got there, they didn't know what to expect. Apparently the aliens living there had the equivalent of a forrest fire, raging onwards. It's path was headed directly towards the center of the village and at the speed it was increasing, meaning it would be there in a minute or two.
Panicked, Shiro declared that they should try and put out the fire with the blue lion's ice. All it did was speed it up and then get consumed. "Ah quiznak," Shiro muttered.
"I think w-" Lance started, only to get interrupted by Shiro. "Lane, I swear to god if you're gonna make a joke, please just don't" The blue paladin scowled and snapped back at his leader, "Just because I make some dumbass jokes, doesn't mean that every word I'm going to say is a joke. What I was trying to say before I was so rudely interrupted was that we should use Pidge's plant beam to make a sturdy wall and contain the fire." Keith scoffed at him. "Trees usually burn in fires dipshit."
"Well we're in godamn space so anything is really possible at the moment, but if you were actually paying attention, you would have noticed that the trees that are on fire aren't actually burning, they're just catching on fire for some odd reason. So if we used Pidge's plants, they wouldn't burn and we could contain the fire until it tires itself out."
Keith's mouth was dropped open in shock at the fact that Lance actually knew what to do. "So let's stop standing around like idiots and actually do something!"
Pidge activated the beam and sent a giant dome of the native trees around the village. Just as Lance had thought, the trees didn't burn and the fire tired itself out. The villagers cheered for Voltron and they quickly filed out of their separated lions.
"Thank you Voltron. You have saved my people and I am eternally great full," the leader of the village spoke to Shiro in specific. He nodded and smiled back. Everyone split to start conversations with the villagers. The blue paladin had found a local villager and began ranting about everything. "Of course Shiro gets all the attention," Lance grumbled. "I get that I'm a big screw up, but really? I don't even get credit for what I did?"
"What do you mean, blue paladin?" The villager cocked their head to the side, questioning him.
"I'm the one responsible for most of our victories in battle, fixing the little flaws in our plans and no one seems to realize it's me. I go around late at night making sure everyone is actually asleep and that they're not awake at an ungodly hour. I've had to drag Keith out of the training room when he's half conscious, refusing to stop training or sleep. Everyone thinks I'm really just a stupid dumbass that won't shut his trap. They're not entirely wrong, but I'd say I'm pretty smart. Literally all of my so called friends are annoyed by me or something because everyone is always brushing me off or not even acknowledging my presence! I do get it though, they're all really great. Pidge is a genius, Hunk is the kindest person you'll ever meet, Keith is flat out the most skilled pilot I know, Shiro's the great leader, Allura is the badass space princess, and Coran is like my space uncle. I'm just me, a massive screw up that always seems to goof off. Honestly, I'd die for them in a heartbeat. It's not like anyone would really miss me," Lance rambled on, unaware of what he was saying.
The villager looked at him in sorrow and shock, not expecting something so serious to be bothering Voltron's goofy paladin.
"Well I send my deepest apologies and I wish you luck." Lance shot them his signature smile and sauntered off towards the rest of his teammates.
"Flirting with another alien I see," Pidge snickered. "You're gonna scare them off with your corny jokes and lame pickup lines." Lance's mood sunk a little, but he managed to keep his smile bright. It's not like he hasn't heard any of this before. "Of course all the people want me. I've just been waiting for the right one," he retorted.
"Do you ever shut up?" The red paladin shot a glare at Lance, causing him to frown for a millisecond before shooting back, "I always have some useful information to share, mullet."
The villager Lance was talking to earlier was listening into their conversation, noticing how Lance was laughed at. They had laughed at the mention of Lance and them self dating, already having a family of their own at home. Still, they swiftly walked up to the group of laughing paladins and cleared their throat, gaining their attention. "Oh hey," Lance waved, smiling. They smiled back and spoke in a sweet voice, "I couldn't help but overhear your conversation and just wanted to let you know that your blue paladin wasn't flirting with me but was in fact telling about how great you guys are." Hunk smiled and put an arm around Lance. "That's my best friend for ya." The villager nodded and continued, "He thinks so highly of all of you. He said he'd die for all of you in a heartbeat."
Lance's tensed up at this comment and everyone's eyes turned towards him. He nervously chuckled and he felt Hunk's grip on him tighten.
Shiro took a sharp intake of breath, giving Lance the 'We're talking about this later' look. He glared back in response and spoke up, "The villagers and their crazy comments, am I right?"
They yet again cocked their head to the side, looking up at him. "If I remember correctly, you basically told me that you're the one looking out for everyone, fixing all the flaws in the plans, how great everyone is, how much you think you're a screw up and that you're certain that everyone hates you."
The blue paladin's face paled and everyone glanced amongst each other. Pidge was the first one to break the silence, bursting out laughing. "A-are you...sure we're t-talking about the same person?" The local looked around the group and saw that everyone had joined in with Pidge, either trying to contain their laughter or just giggling.
"What seems to be so funny?"
"Oh it's nothing," wheezed out Pidge. The group waved them off and said their good-byes to the villagers, heading back to the castle. They met up with Allura and Coran in the lounge, discussing what everyone was like.
"You wouldn't believe the stuff they were telling us," Keith spoke first, breaking the silence. "Yeah! It was hilarious," Pidge agreed, "One of them kept going on about how Lance thought oh so highly of us and how much he put himself down or something."
Allura worriedly gazed towards Lance, finally noticing how fake his smile looked. Keeping her eyes on him, she replied in a quite worried tone, "That species is known for being brutally honest. They'd never lie to anyone." Lance panicked for a second before regaining his composure.
"What?" Pidge managed to squeak out. Again, Lance managed to have every eye in the room on him.
He looked down and rushed out of the room before anyone could question him.
They'd figured out too much.
He rushed into his room, the door automatically shutting behind him. The panicked paladin slid down to the floor as tears streamed down his face.
Here was the thing, Lance was never a loud cryer, he'd always been quite. So when no one seemed to hear him cry all those times through the coms during a mission, he wasn't surprised. Honestly, he cried a lot more than he would like to, but you can't necessarily control that, can you?
A soft knock was heard at the door, "Lance?"
It was Keith.
"Can you let us in?"
Shiro too.
Lance groaned and wiped away his tears, "Go away." All of a sudden, the door he was leaning on fell out from under him and he collapsed onto the floor with a "oof." The two helped him up and he shook his head. "What was that for?"
"We came here to talk," Shiro soothed. Keith nodded along and they both followed Lance into his room.
Lance sat down on his bed, Keith leaned on the wall and Shiro stood off to the side with his arms crossed.
"So what's up?"
The red and black paladin exchanged glances and spoke, "So this is partially about the mission today and the other reason is personal stuff involving you. First off, we're worried about you. If what the alien said was true, then you have some serious issues going on right now. We both just want to let you know we're here for you and if you ever need to talk about stuff we are available." Shiro silently agreed with Keith's statement, simply smiling.
The lanky teen smiled and replied, "Thanks you two. By the way, what the alien said was technically true and I'm sorry for hiding that. I should have confronted everyone about my issues but of course, I always seem to make things worse in the end."
He chuckled bitterly as wiped a stray tear away.
I think the fuck not you trick ass bitch. Miss me with that self depreciating shit.
Shiro placed a hand on Lance's shoulder. The warmth of his hand spread through his body, leaving him with a tingly, but empty feeling inside. Sure, his touch made him happy, but he realized that Shiro would never be able to truly grasp how much that affected him.
He'd never feel the same way.
He'd wouldn't feel the affection that Lance had towards him, nor could he make it mutual.
No one would, not even his 'rival' Keith.
But that's where Lance is wrong, for he didn't know what they were about to reveal to him.
"Lance, this might be a little hard to grasp, but Keith and I have been dating for a while now," Shiro's voice was soft as he spoke.
With those words, Lance's heart broke into two. He never had a chance, and he'd never will.
"and we realized we're missing something, more like someone. It's been great and all but Keith and I noticed that our relationship doesn't seem quite complete. So in other words, we agreed on the fact that we both share a romantic liking for you and that we were going to ask you to join our relationship," Shiro finally wrapped up.
Lance was utterly confused. "W-wait are you saying that y-you like me? Both of you?"
The two nodded, confirming everything.
"But how would this work? You can't just have three people in a relationship! Actually maybe you could, I've just never heard of one," he trailed off. Shaking his head, he stood up and pulled Shiro along with him, over to Keith.
The atmosphere became more tense causing Keith to visibly recoil. Both waited for a reply and it finally came when Lance sighed out, "Honestly, I've liked you both for quite some time and I never knew what to do. Both of you are amazing and I couldn't seem to decide. So now when you're telling me that you want me to join you twos' relationship, I'm beyond happy. It's a little weird to think about but overall, I'm happy with it. So I wouldn't be a bother, I'd gladly join the group!"
Keith smiled and brought Lance into a hug, letting his face rest in the crook of his neck. "I knew you'd say yes."
Shiro walked up behind the two and pulled them into an even bigger hug. "I guess we're a thing now," he gleamed.
That lady and gentlemen, is how three of the five paladins ended up together, in the middle of space, with two aliens of an extinct race.
Life was finally going great and nothing could change that.
