December 26, 2018We barely made it out of the snow. Two ambulances came, one for each of us. I wanted to stay with Aiden but they said no. I had a different injury, less serious than his so they had to rush him immediately back to the hospital. He was barely breathing when they separated us.
"Please do everything that you can to save him. Please!" I said while the emergency personnel lifted him up and slid him inside one of the ambulances.
"Yes, Ms. Richards. We'll do everything that we can." She replied before going inside after him then closing the ambulance door.
That's when I felt it again, the searing pain that coursed through my entire leg. I didn't know what happened next because I blacked out. Next thing I know is that I was being pulled out from a large double door and they kept telling me that I was going to be okay and thet they were able to save my leg.
When they got me to my room, I dozed off again and when I came to my senses, dad was already sitting beside me, holding my hand as he slept. If he's here, my bitch of a mother couldn't be far behind.
"Good. You're awake." Apparently, she's on the other side of the room, sitting in silence while reading the Bible. "You're father doesn't need to know why you filthy little slut was running away, does he?" She slowly lifted her gaze from the Bible and gave me an stone cold glare.
All the remorse and regret that I felt from earlier left me in an instant. I understood why we did what we did and it was because of that bitch I called mom.
"He'd know, mother. The police will come. I will tell him everything." I said softly, trying not to wake my father from his slumber.
"Listen to me, you little bitch." She slammed the Bible back on my bedside table, stood up and moved closer to me. "I have enough problems with you dragging your brother along in this silly affair of yours. Whatever you're planning, it's not going to work." She said angrily, her nostrils flaring as her eyes shot daggers into mine.
"In case you haven't forgotten, mommy dearest, Aiden was the one who suggested we run away from you. He loves me." I glared back. "You can't stop us. Not now. Not ever." I looked deeper into her eyes, then added, "It's not just a silly affair. Our relationship is more real than that of yours and dad."
She lifted her hand and made a motion to slap me but she caught herself. Instead, she clenched her fist and took a deep breath. "If he dies from the accident you caused, this is on you." She said flatly, emphasizing the words "on you."
"Good evening, Mr and Mrs. Richards?" Our feud immediately stopped when a nurse walked inside the room. The sound of her voice woke dad up from his sleep.
"Yes, nurse?" Dad responded first because I gripped mom's dress and prevented her from walking towards the nurse, something she was about to do just so me and dad wouldn't be able to hear what she had to say.
"Nurse, how's Aiden?" I asked. He still wasn't out of surgery meaning his injuries were more severe.
"The latest update, the doctor said that he's doing good on the table and he's stable, but, Aiden's injuries are extensive and they need to transfuse some blood." She redirected her gaze to my dad who was now fully alert beside me but was still holding my hand. "I will need your consent for the transfusion so I need you to sign here." The nurse handed my dad a form, pointed at the blank lines, then moved beside me to checked my vitals, but before she could do so, my dad realized that I was already awake. He immediately got closer and gave me a warm embrace.
"Thank God, sweetie." He gave my forehead a kiss then looked me in the eye, said, "Don't ever give me a scare like that, okay?", then gave me another tight hug.
"Ow, dad. My body still hurts from all the bruises." I chuckled.
"Oh sorry." He smiled at me then returned his attention to the papers he was about to sign. When I looked at my mother, she wasn't too pleased that my dad was happy.
"Um sir, we also encourage you to replace the blood that they will use in Aiden's surgery. We will also be very thankful if it will be the same blood type that he'll use which is O positive." The nurse stated.
"My wife and I are O positive. We're willing to replace them. How about the blood that you used for my daughter?" He asked as he returned the signed papers.
"You can replace that, too. It will be very helpful because her blood type's incredibly rare. AB negative." She smiled and was about to leave but I stopped her.
"Wait. What's my blood type again?" I asked the nurse.
"It's AB negative. " She replied, and resumed walking out the room.
Confusion swept over me as I processed the thought that I wasn't the same blood type as my parents. The odds of having a different blood type when your parents have the same is lower than zero percent. I learned that in my Anatomy class. "Do you know that my blood type's AB negative?" I asked my father. He, too, looked confused.
"No, but I'm pretty sure there's a reason for that." He replied. He seemed so sure but his face gave away all the confusion in his mind. I looked at mom but she was too busy talking on her phone.
How the hell did I end up with an AB negative blood type?
