~Jack~
"What would you think... if you looked in the mirror, and saw someone else?" The voice was grating on my ears, and I shivered, pulling Mark's jacket tightly around myself.
"What do you mean? Who are you?" I asked. I looked around frantically, searching for any sign of life.
"Look, there. There is were you need to be. Not yet... but one day." My attention turned to the Pit, and I gasped. It was covered in blood, so much blood. I ran to the Pit, looking for anyone who might be hurt, but no one was there.
"Please, someone's hurt! I have to help them!" I cried out, looking into the Pit for a survivor.
"No one's there. Stop looking. An evil is comin-"
"Wow! An 'evil.' How cliche!" I mocked the voice. Suddenly I was pushed down as if someone was gripping my forearm. I cried out from the pain, falling to the ground.
"You will not mock me!" The voice yelled, and I gasped as the force let up from my arm. "Beware of six."
"Jack!"
I gasped, clutching onto Mark's arm like my life depended on it. My head was pounding, and I looked over to see my window was open. I turned to Mark, his face basked in the yellow light from my bedside lamp.
"Did you fucking scale four stories to get through my window?" I asked.
"You have no idea how bad I felt. I could feel that something was wrong, and I had to get you. Unfortunately, your door is locked. Why the hell would you have seven locks?" Mark took a deep breathe and got up from my bed, closing the window and sitting back down beside me.
"I'm... paranoid? Ugh, I've got a major headache."
"Here." Mark held out two pills and a water bottle. I took them and sat up, taking the pills and chugging down half of the water.
"I hope that wasn't poison... or laxatives." I said, making Mark chuckle.
"Nah, Ibuprofen. Are you okay? That seemed like a bad nightmare if it woke me up." Mark scooted beside me and pulled some cover over himself. Rude, taking my cover. I thought to myself, amused by Mark.
"I don't know. I'm alright now, though. Thank you for that. How have you been?" I asked, not wanting to talk about the nightmare.
"Still not good. But, somewhat better, so there's that. Jack, we're soulmates," I nodded, confused as to where he was going with this, "What about when I die?"
My breathe caught in my throat, I hadn't expected him to ask that. I slowly reach out and took his hand, pulling it close to where my slowly beating heart was.
Thud...
Thud...
Thud...
"I'm going to be alive for a while after you die. That'll suck. No pun intended. Ahem, anyways, we're not even together but I know that that'll suck. It'll happen, it will suck. I'm not quite sure what I'll do. By the time you turn fifty I'll still look twenty-five. By the time you're eighty, I'd still look forty. I honestly don't want to think about that."
"I've heard that some soulmate bonds are so strong that the creature difference doesn't matter. The soulmate bond will either make some live longer so they can be with their soulmate, or will make some age quicker. With people who have more than one soulmate, I've heard that it's almost always a guarantee that the bond will override their creature differences." Mark said, turning to smile at me.
"Yeah, I've seen many with multiple soulmates. They're always so strong. It's kinda strange though, to think we've known each other for only a month. Shouldn't you have had to turn by now?" I asked, lacing my fingers through his. It was a curious feeling, his calloused hand in mine. I watched him slowly begin to run his fingers over my knuckles as he contemplated what to say.
"I have. Turned, I mean. A few days ago, actually. You don't watch the moon often, do you?" He asked teasingly. The serious atmosphere had returned, but wasn't too bad now that we were talking about something other than death.
"I've lived through many moon's. Plus there was that era were humans were murder happy, killing innocent vampires under the guise of them being witches. I didn't see the sun or moon for so long. And, how come I didn't feel anything?" I asked. It was curious, over the past few days I've hardly felt a thing. The soulmate bond gave no warning of danger or pain.
"The Pit is protected. Warded from prying eyes by the most powerful witch. She was a human with talents and skill in the art of magic, and she owed an ancestor of mine a rather large debt. So she warded the Pit, fortifying it so that none could see it. I guess it's strong enough, even after all of these centuries, that her wards didn't allow our bond to see through to me." Mark explained, or in the best way he could.
"Witches. Most are neither human nor Natural. I don't trust them, but they are kind. Regardless, I don't want to get into the talk of witches. But, I am curious. What was her name?" I asked.
"Jäkel Rom was her name." Mark answered, bringing my hand to his lips and gently kissing it. I felt my cheeks get red, so I looked down. "Jack."
I turned to him, and he faltered, seeming to lose what he was going to say. He stared at my lips, then took in a breath and looked back into my eyes.
"Well, aren't you going to kiss me?" I asked. Mark chuckled, and with a grin he kissed me. I let the nightmare be shaken off of me along with all of my worries and doubts as I kissed him back with a passion.
"You're cute." Mark whispered against my lips.
"Don't jinx me, Markimoo."
"Markimoo?" He asked, clearly amused.
"Oh hush, ya big wolf!" I laughed, kissing him again. And so, we laughed and kissed til morning came, unaware and oblivious.
