~Jack~
After grabbing a bite to eat, both human food and blood, I looked at the map on my phone yet again. This would take all day, I just needed to find the... I looked up, and saw an old run down building. Nevermind, I found it. Someone from the top window waved kindly. Geoffrey Wes.I held my head higher, and walked inside, climbing the long, winding staircase to where Geoffrey was. He sat in a chair by the window that had clearly been brought in as it was thw cleanest thing is the old room. He gestured for me to sit opposite to him in a matching chair. I took the seat with a small smile and nodded to him.
"Hello Geoffrey, how have you been?" I asked politely. I may be King, but Geoffrey was the Cull. Technically he was my boss unless I decided he wasn't suited for the title and the responsibilities. Quite frankly, I've always thought he were more suited to be King than I. I've heard that that's 'humble talk,' though I call it the truth.
"I'm well, Sean. How are you? How has Zen Academy been? How's your urges?" I gave Geoffrey a knowing smile, he'd always been one to ask many questions rapidly when he got curious.
"I'm doing alright. I'm sure you've gotten the text I sent about Mark's mom. I'm sorry I sent it so late after the event happened, it was quite devastating. Mrs. Fischbach was always a lovely guest... Zen Academy is quite interesting. It holds many learning opportunities, but it pains me to have to wake so early. My urges are noticeably easier to handle. I've been able to take myself out of situations and get something to eat." I answered all of his questions as best I could, glancing to the street below the window.
"Yes, it was terrible news. Has the Alpha uncovered the culprit yet?"
"I'm not sure. Mark doesn't really tell me things pertaining to pack business, which is understandable." I said.
"Ah. Well, learning opportunities are always excellent, and I'm proud of you. Taking yourself out of any situation can be difficult. Also, I thought the Alpha knew not of your title?" Geoffrey gave me a confused look.
"He doesn't. He's been slightly suspicious though. The man is smart, extremely smart. Mark holds a certain facade of ignorance and naivety to things, but he truly sees more than one might think." I said.
"You speak highly of him. You and the Alpha must be close." Geoffrey noted.
"Mark leans on me for support. He may be strong, but his mother passed away. He's allowed to be weak, in fact his pack encourages him to lean on me or his other friends." I explained, mentally cursing. I wasn't sure of Geoffrey's stance on gay people, or in my case pansexuality. This might not bode well if he catches on that Mark is my soulmate...
"Something on your mind, Sean? Actually, I hope you don't mind if I steal the moment to tell a quick story."
"Go ahead, Geoffrey."
"My first soulmate was the kindest soul. He held people to the highest expectations, expecting everyone else to be kind. When I met him, I was angry. I was angry that my soulmate was a man, angry that he expected me to be respectful of him, and angry that he expected us to be together for the rest of his life. He was a siren, enchanting and generous.
Unfortunately, when I did allow myself to get to know him, I fell in love. We couldn't be together. His kind was strict with their laws, no men could be together whether they be soulmates or not. Eventually we were found out, and he was killed for refusing to take up a wife. I vowed I'd never love a soulmate again, and that if the occasion arose I'd make killing someone for who they loved illegal. To the day, Sean, I keep that vow. You have my word that things will be different." The was an unspoken 'for you and the Alpha' that reassured me greatly.
Geoffrey stood, and we parted ways. Somehow it was near time for me to meet with Miss Reagan. I headed that way, my mind still reeling from all that Geoffrey told me. His first soulmate was a man. He knew Mark was my soulmate. He wanted to help us, he approved. Somehow I didn't realize I had reached Miss Reagan's office. I knocked, and the door swung open.
"Miss Reagan?" I asked, entering the room. I didn't see her...
"Hello Jack!" Miss Reagan exclaimed, jumping up from behind her desk looking frazzled.
"Hi... Are you alright Miss Reagan? Were you expecting someone else?" I asked. She certainly seemed like she was expecting someone.
"Not at all!" She said, but I wasn't convinced. Time to pull the King card.
"As King, I'm asking you to confide in me. What's wrong?"
Miss Reagan guiltily looked around, her eyes widening fearfully once she looked behind me. I spun around, face to face with a black haired, blue eyed man who towered tall over me. I stumbled back, startled.
"Lord Philip, aren't you to make your presence known to your King?" I asked, lifting my chin up slightly. Lord Philip Lester wasn't usually so intimidating, but he looked extremely pissed right now. He looked annoyed as he bowed before me.
"My King," He spat out my title as if it were acid on his tongue, "I'm terribly sorry if I gave you a fright. I have some concerns, and if you couldn't tell I'm not quite happy right now."
"Miss Reagan, have a seat. Sit, Lord Philip. Tell me what has you angry. You're usually so calm." I pointed out as I sat in the chair in front of Miss Reagan's desk. They both sat, with Phil sitting in the chair beside me.
"Do you know who the Alpha has put blame you for the tragedy that occurred at his house?" Lord Philip asked.
"No, but I'm assuming this has something to do with the demon King, else you wouldn't be so angry." I pointed out.
"The Alpha is blaming demons, and the King has had rebellions ever since the rumor spread. There have now been eight attempted assassinations. It's to my understanding that you and the Alpha are close. I ask that you tell the Alpha to cease his outrageous claims." Lord Philip certainly believed that the demons didn't do it, but I wasn't quite sure. Suddenly I felt a sharp pain in my stomach, as if I'd been punched. Mark.
Wherever Lord Philip was, the demon King usually wasn't far behind... Mark was in danger. Miss Reagan shifted nervously.
"Where's the demon King?" I demanded. Lord Philip smiled, and my gut twisted at how sickeningly sweet that fake smile was.
"Defending himself."
