Jade's POV
I could sense the pain pulsing throughout my body. Their house wasn't that far, yet the walk felt like an eternity of walking on shards of glass with hot flames caressing my body. At some point I stopped, leaning against one of the trees; the tree was moving however. I stumbled with the said tree and barely caught myself. My throat was burning, and drier than the Sahara desert. Why was the ground swaying? I don't remember getting on a boat. With that, my mind went blank, my body numb, and the world gone.
Ricky's POV
I look over when I heard a weird noise; only to see Jade falling, clearly unconscious. I quickly grabbed her before she could hit the ground, glancing at Chris with a look of concern. He returned the look and helped me pick her up. We walked the rest of the way to our house and laid her on the couch. We collaborated on what we should do and if we should take her to the doctor and contemplated as to why she collapsed.
We finally agreed it was best to take her to the hospital, seeing as she should have in the first place. Neither of us had medical experience aside from concussions, from various things. I had Chris drive while I sat in the back, making sure she wasn't jostled around too much.
After thirty minutes of red lights, and cusses from Chris; we arrived at the hospital. We went in through the emergency room entrance to he greeted by the doctor I recognized from the scene. There was a moment of eye contact before she ran over. "Someone bring me a gurney!" Chris and I stuck out like sore thumbs, and it didn't help that we had panicked looks, as well as a doctor screaming. "What happened?" She snaps. I'll admit, she's kinda scary.
"Long story short? She collapsed all of a sudden when we were walking to our house." Three people showed up with a gurney and took her body out of my hands.
"Do you have any information about this woman?" I shook my head no.
"No ma'am. We just met her today. We know about as much as you do, if not less." She released a sigh of frustration. I don't blame her.
She stalked off and went to place the notes with the medical practitioners in charge of Jade. Chris and I sat in the waiting room. Anxiety was eating away at Chris and I; he was pacing while I was bouncing my leg repeatedly. A few people were staring as us, but neither of us gave any mind to them.
After what felt like an eternity, the woman who I learned was named Dr. Grey entered the waiting room. "Family of Jade Darsey?" Chris and I nearly jumped out of our seats and ran over to her. "What exactly is your relationship with Miss. Darsey?" I stumbled over my words attempting to think of something, when thankfully Chris intervened.
"We were the ones to save her earlier this evening ma'am." She nodded and gave us the update on Jade.
"She's going to be held here over night for observation. I regret allowing her to leave the scene of the crime. She has some severe bruising and lacerations. Aside from psychological trauma, she should be able to go home tomorrow."
I let out a sigh of relief. "Can we go see her?" I didn't want to seem pushy or creepy, but maybe she would want a friendly face when she woke up.
"I don't see why not. Just be quiet until she wakes up please. Visiting hours are technically over, but I can extend them for a minute." Cue internal cheering!
She left the waiting area after providing us with the room information. We walked the eerie hallways, entering an elevator once the opportunity presented itself. Even though I wasn't particularly a fan of the metal box, it was a million times better then the empty halls filled with the occasional doctor or nurse.
The elevator doors creaked open upon reaching our floor, giving a creepy vibe to the dimly lit hallway. Her room was only a few doors down from the prison we just escaped. Chris and I stood outside her room awkwardly, waiting for the other person to make the first move. Finally as I was about to open the door, I heard a faint voice croaking, "Come in." My tattooed hand rested on the knob, and pushed open the wooden slab.
"Hey, how're you feeling?" Chris gently asked.
"Honestly? Like a pile of dogshit, but I'll survive." I couldn't help but to chuckle at her retort.
"Fair enough, it's not like that shit is easy on the mind or body." The words left before I could think. "I mean, uh-"
"Ricky it's fine, I knew what you meant." She nearly whispered. Fuck me. "Where am I supposed to go after all this? I can't believe I left without thinking. God I'm stupid."
"Uh-uh no self-deprecation. You aren't stupid I would have done the same damn thing." Ah the famous Chris sass. This is why we're best friends.
"You can stay with us, we have a spare bedroom." I need to start thinking before I speak, I swear to God!
"Are you sure? I don't want to intrude, and you guy's barely even know me.." She has a fair point.
"Girl we'd love to have you! We could use an extra roommate anyways." You could see a spark in her eyes at the sound of Chris's words.
"I mean, if you don't mind, that would be lovely. Thank you." She shot a small smile our way filled with 20,000 watts of energy straight to my heart.
A knock rang throughout the room, and the door creaked open. The head of the nurse we spoke to earlier peaked in. "I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it's time to go boys. You can come pick her up in the morning." Chris and I let out a groan. "Hey, I already let you stay past curfew, don't push it." She winked at us, and we said our fair wells to Jade.
Hello everyone. I'm so sorry for the delay in writing. I've been so busy this past year, what with school, work, moving, and starting college. I don't know when I'll be able to update next, or if I'll have the urge to write anytime soon. I've been in a dark space for a minute, so I've been spending a lot of time just doing small things, or nothing. Please forgive me. I do have an outline done, up to the (probable) end. Please just have some patience.
Thank you all so much!
