Chapter 1
"Come on, Cal! I don't have all day." Lexie was dragging me to the library. Again. She knows I hate it there. I mean seriously, it's filled with nerds. The only good thing about going to the library is that it is the only place in the whole school with free wifi. With this perk you would think it would be swarming with tons of girls updating their instagram, but as it turns out, none of them have ever been in the library to discover this wonderful secret. I, however, am here quite often. Against my own free will, of course.
As we walk into the library, I notice nothing changed. I mean, really. What was I expecting? I followed Lexie over to the history books so she could get what she needed for Mr. Ledger's assignment. She looked thoughtfully through the books as if she cared. Maybe she did. I don't see how though.
School has never been on my good side. I guess I think I was made for better things. Bigger things. Don't get me wrong I'm smart. Just as smart as Lexie, but I simply don't care. For now all I can do is wait until something snatches me off and I can be done with this place. The sooner the better.
What is "this place" exactly? Onestruck Academy 11. It's a boarding school where the kids of the God's go to live like normal teenagers. Well as normal as possible. There about 15 of them in the world. Ours happens to be in New York City.
And apparently I am a child of a God. I don't really know who my parents are but I do know that I come from a long line of "power".
As we are on our way out, after Lexie checks out her book, Mrs. Bakes rushes into the library. She looked tired and frantic, but determined as well. I wasn't intrigued at all as to what she was doing. Whatever it was it must be important.
Before I had time to notice, she was walking straight up to me.
"Mr. Briggs, someone is here to see you."
Chapter 2
I walk into the office and standing there is a man maybe in his 30's. Okay, cool, a normal guy, right? NOPE. He has tattoos and piercings all over him. I don't usually have a problem with any of that sort of thing, but this guy....something isn't right about him. The whole look, it doesn't fit. I don't know but I've never seen this guy before in my life, and trust me I would have remembered.
And they he talked, "Hey, son, you are going to come home for a while. Go pack your things. You can also bring a friend, because there aren't a lot of....opportunities...to make new friends where we are going."
***
Of course, Lexie was waiting outside the office doors.
"Who is that?, she asked with way more dramatics than needed.
Still in shock I replied, "I think it's my dad."
"That," pointing toward the office, where my so called dad was waiting, "is your dad?!"
"Don't worry. I'm just as confused as you. If not more."
"Yeah, right..." she trailed off. leaving us both in silence as we walked to our rooms.
Our rooms were actually pretty close. Mine is only two hallways down from Lexie's.
Before we split to go our separate ways, I stopped. "He said I could bring a friend." I said nervously, hoping she would want to come with me.
"And you were thinking me?" She asked. I nodded. Thank the Gods she said it and not me. I don't know if I could have. "Calix, of course I'll go with you. Lets go have an adventure!"
Wow. That was a lot easier than I thought it would be. We parted and she skipped down her hallway, probably so happy that she was getting a chance to have some real fun. While I was worried, wondering what this is all about.
Chapter 3
Lexie and I met back in between the hallways 20 minutes later. She had a suit case, a little bag, and a backpack, while all I had was a duffel. We made our way down to the front of the building, where my "dad" was waiting. As we rushed out of the building that had been my home for...ever it was the same wet, drizzly weather I had come to love. We both climbed into his SUV and drove off.
