(PRESENT DAY)

MELANIE'S POV

"Bye Bye, Stinky Robot!" My son, William clapped. We were cuddled on the couch, nearing to end of his favorite movie, The Incredible's. I laughed and kissed his head.

"Do you want some water, baby?" I asked him.

"Yes mommy," He answered. I got up and started walking towards the kitchen, mindful of all of William's toys scattered about. I got out his favorite sippy cup, and filled it up with water.

As I was twisting the cap on, William ran in, and I handed him his water. "I want to listen to daddy's song," William pouted.

"How about we listen to him together before bed, but only if you hurry up and brush your teeth," I said. William nodded, chugging down his water. He then put his water down on the counter, signalling that he was done, before charging in to the bathroom.

I set up Take Me Home for William, and climbed into bed with him. I hated doing this. I felt as though every lyric would bring him closer and closer to wanting me to take him to meet his father. I couldn't do that. I knew I was letting him walk out of our lives the day he got on the plane and flew away.

I still felt bad about it. I cut off all communication with him. No lie, I moved out of my parent's house, I changed my phone number, the whole deal. It was the hardest thing I've ever done, and probably will ever do. He was my best friend, and even though we weren't dating I loved him. I knew that the second our lips touched during spin the bottle in tenth grade.

William was falling asleep now, I could tell by his stilling breath. I kissed him on the head, than nose, than each cheek, and finally his eyelids. Little Things was on when he finally fell under, so I got up and turned off the stereo. I blew him a kiss, then closed the door.

I went back into the living room, and researched Louis Tomlinson. Don't judge me, I'm only human. Of course, the most recent news was about his girlfriend, Eleanor, and how he was had a "special surprise" for her. I felt something hot and wet run down my cheek, followed by another and another, before creating a waterfall down my face.

It still hurts. Everytime I see an article, or an interview, it hurts. I look at William, and see what little of Lou I have left. I closed my lap top, and put it down, before curling into a ball on the couch.

-

I awoke to the sound of William yelling, "Mama, Mama!" I stretched and opened my eyes, blinking away the uncomfortable, dreamless sleep. I opened my eyes fully, to be greeted by a pai of dazzling blue eyes.

"What is it, baby?" I yawned.

"I went potty in the big boy toilet!" He said, beaming up at me.

"You did?" I asked, getting up and walking towards the restroom. Sure enough, he had.

"You did!" I praised, "And do you know what you get for being such a big boy?"

"What, mama?" He asked, his eyes shining with excitement and curiosity.

"Chocolate chip pancakes!" I exclaimed.

He giggled out a "Yay," before running into the kitchen, me close behind. I loved mornings like this. We didn't get them very often do to the fact that I have to work long hours to keep our small apartment.

Our life may not be ideal, but neither William or I cared. Louis may have left me, but I had a new love in my life. And he was here, in our kitchen, shoveling down chocolate chip pancakes.
