If it were any other circumstances, Reid would've gotten out of the party.
Except, he actually hasn't seen his best friends in a little over a week and Jax had climbed through his window in the middle of the night just a half hour ago, pointed a blinding flashlight right in his eyes, and yelled, "GET UP, MOTHERFUCKER. IT'S A FULL MOON!" right before throwing his head back and howling like something straight out of a Michael J. Fox movie.
Reid had just groaned and flipped over, grappling for the blanket to pull over his head. Unfortunately — though he hadn't heard her — Grace had climbed through the window right after Jax and was there waiting to snatch the blankets off his skinny frame for this precise reason. He hated that his friends knew him so well enough to think he would inevitably try to pretend he was way too tired to go to such an event.
"No backing out, Patton." Jax had said, "You know the rules."
Unfortunately, Reid did know the rules and despite the fact that he hadn't been to a single practice since he'd been arrested, he was still a Wolf at heart and he was still a Wolf to his teammates — to his school. Which meant, every full moon, at the precise time the moon was at its highest, the Wolves threw a party.
Each month, it was at a different member's house and no one knew who was throwing it except the host and the captain until midnight rolled around and a mass text was sent out with an address and a bottom's up, motherfucker signed at the end.
Naturally, Reid had been spending so much time with the Foxes, he'd forgotten all about it which, he'd admit, was his own damn fault. Not hanging out with Jax and not attending practices meant he was so far out of the loop that if didn't drag himself to this thing, then his teammates would start getting suspicious.
It's happened before; it'd become a gag and they'd start filming live Snapchat videos as they followed him around and eventually outed his secret. That's how everyone found out Fuller was dating a freshman. It was also why Mason didn't care to hide his relationship with Karen. Getting out in front of secrets before your teammates did was the only way to salvage your dignity.
Except, Reid wasn't entirely sure he could ever let this one secret hit the light of day. No, scratch that, he was dead sure. Everyone knew Mason was a snake — being a ginger and all — but Jax would never let him live it down. Their friendship would be the first to go, and then his dignity right down the drain with it.
Now though, he was dressed and standing off in a far corner by himself, wanting more than anything to be anywhere but here. His teammates have been bombarding him all night, some of them coming up to swear at him for not being at practice — "Jackson says you've got some kind of medical excuse, but I call bullshit, Patton." — and others just ran up to howl in his face with the Wolf masks the whole team had donned last Halloween before chugging down a red solo cup of god knows what and running off to find some new victim for their taunts.
He'd been there an hour already. He could faintly hear Jax in the background yelling "Shots! Shots! Shots!" and the last he saw of Grace, she was dancing with one of the cheerleaders that Reid couldn't quite remember the name of.
Any other time, he would've been joining in on the festivities right along with them. Doing body shots off of Mason, lighting shit on fire in the team captain, Mack's, backyard, and getting so pissed drunk that his friends frequently had to scrape him off the roof once morning came. That was his legacy.
