"Gosh, I look a mess." The blonde shook her head as she looked at herself in the mirror of her boyfriend's truck, letting out a chuckle.

"Darling, you look perfect." He mumbled under his breath in response, her blushing as she bit her lip. He wasn't aware that he'd heard her but she did and it reminded her of how much she loved how sweet he was.

They had only been together for a month, Carrie and Mike. He'd been in several relationships before they met each other and she had as well. Their relationship with each other had been the only one that seemed to mean anything to them.

Carrie had never thought that she'd fall so hard for a guy, especially so quickly. Her last boyfriend had cheated on her but that wasn't something she was ready to talk about with Mike. The wound was very deep and still fresh but she knew sometime she would tell him, it just wouldn't be anytime in the near future.

Mike had never truly had a serious relationship before. Any and every relationship he'd been in was mainly just for sex. With Carrie it was different. He didn't want to have sex with her. Yes, he was very attracted to Carrie but he felt like at this point sex would only mess things up. He respected her; he respected her morals and felt like she didn't want to have sex either and that was fine.

Carrie and Mike both felt as if they fit well together. She cared deeply for him and he felt the same way, a way that he never thought was possible.

"Mike, it's kind of cold out here. What are we doing?" Her voice put a smile on her face as he watched her walk in front of him, hugging herself to keep warm.

"I just need to show you something." Mike replied, catching up to her and putting his jacket over her shoulders.

"Thank you." Carrie smiled softly as she looked up into his eyes, holding her breath.

"You're welcome." He kissed her forehead gently, causing the butterflies in her stomach to flutter. "I wanted to show you something from when I was a kid. You know, I have been thinking about it every night, every time I've seen you and I just think I need to open up to you." Mike confessed, her slightly confused. "I just, you've opened up about your life to me and I should do the same." He explained himself, Carrie trying her hardest to think about how she hadn't opened all the way up to him. She hadn't told him the truth about her past.

"If you don't feel comfortable talking to me about something, it's okay." She said, looking up into his eyes.

"No, I think I need to do this." Mike replied, taking a seat on the steps of the small building.

"Is everything okay? Are you okay?" Carrie bit her lip gently as she looked at him, her long blonde curls falling in front of her face as she took a seat beside him.

"I am now but um, this is where my dad use to take me when I was younger." Mike said, pausing for a short second. "At first It was only for hunting, when I was really young but as I got older things sort of changed." His words caused her mind to wonder as her eyes were around the forest in front of them.

"What do you mean?" She quietly asked, reaching over and holding his hand.

"When I was seven, he brought me out here and, he, he made me touch him. He would make me do all this stuff to him and he would do stuff to me, stuff that I didn't want to happen." Carrie pressed her lips together as she watched his mood change, her's changing as well. "If I screamed or cried he would burn me on my chest." Mike added, Carrie suddenly realizing why Mike had turned down going to the lake with her the week before and any other event that would require him to remove his shirt. "He said it would toughen me up. He would beat me until I could barley walk and then bring me home and say I was climbing a tree and fell again or I tripped down a hill, anything." A tear fell from her eye and ran down her face.

"Mike, I'm so sorry." Carrie squeezed his hand and wrapped her arm around his muscular one.

"Don't cry, I'm alright, now."

"You were only a kid." She shook her head as she took a deep breath.

"I just wanted you to know, so maybe you would understand why I am the way I am. My father died when I was 14 and right after that my mom left me. Before all that happened I tried telling her what was going on but she insisted I was only lying." She wiped away a tear, squeezing his arm. "Carrie, I wanted to tell you because I really like you. I care about you a lot but I've never loved someone. I don't know how to." Mike looked down at their hands. "All I know right now is that I don't want to loose you and that I don't want to hurt you." His confession calmed her down yet made her feel as if she was flying.

Carrie couldn't help but smile at his words. She never knew that someone could make her feel so amazing, so special. Mike did that and even though she knew how she felt, she chose not to tell him. She didn't want him feeling bad if he didn't have clarity about his feelings.

"You're never going to loose me." Carrie smiled, holding her breath as she watched him lean closer to her. The butterflies in her stomach seemed to grow once he pressed his lips against his, kissing her.
