Maya Mars (On Hold)

Chapter 2

  At lunch period, Maya, Wallace and Veronica all sat together and ate their sandwiches. It was a nice change for Maya.

  Usually she liked to be alone, but having a new friend and her sister sitting with her was nice.

  Back then, Veronica would have sat with the 09ers. Maya never complained though. She was grateful that her sister kept all their negative attention away from her.

  That was also when Veronica was with Duncan so she couldn't get upset with her for that. Of course Lilly and her boyfriend was also there, so that was just another reason for Veronica to sit with them.

  As Maya glanced at her sister, she saw her gazing at Duncan. She knew her sister wasn't over him and she wished there was something she could do for her. But Maya knew all she could do now was comfort her.

  Then Maya noticed the famous asshole of Neptune High, or at least that was one of the many choice names of Maya and Veronica for him.

  Logan Echolls.

  He was one of the biggest bullies Maya had ever met. He had bullied her the most since they were kids.

  He would make fun of her being Mexican but he mostly poked fun at her weight. She hated him with a passion and she guessed the feeling was mutual. But unlike him, she had many reasons to.

  Logan noticed Veronica staring at Duncan, and Duncan was staring back. Maya guessed Logan thought it would be funny to go sit on Duncan's lap, and pretend to be lovey dovey with him to mock her sister.

  Duncan shoved him off and Logan quickly stood up and laughed. Veronica just looked tense and sad.

  Maya reached over and rubbed her sister's shoulder to comfort her. Her sister didn't really pay attention to the gesture, but still relaxed her shoulders a bit.

  Right when Logan caught Maya's glare, he immediately became serious, and if Maya wasn't mistaken, he frowned slightly.

  She wondered if she was just seeing things. Was there a hint of guilt in his expression? No, there couldn't be. She never thought Logan could feel anything close to that kind of emotion.

  Strangely, Logan quickly broke his intense gaze at Maya and jolted out of the lunch area, nowhere to be seen. His friend, Dick Casablancas followed close behind, also giving Maya a strange look. Odd.

  "So what exactly did you do to get the PCHers to do what they did to you?" Maya took a bite of her sandwich.

  Maya and Veronica listened intently as Wallace told them that he saw some members of the gang steal some alcohol from the convenient store he works at.

  He pressed the silent alarm and the sheriff and some deputies came and arrested them. Their leader, Eli Navarro, or his nickname 'Weevil', wasn't too pleased. So he and his boys taped Wallace to the pole.

  Maya was furious by the end of his story. Eli had always been nice to her and protected her. She felt like smacking him in the face. No matter what, his boys were the ones that stole. Wallace was in the right, and they were in the wrong. She wanted to give Eli a piece of her mind.

  Suddenly Wallace flinched when Eli plopped down in front him and some of his crew huddled around.

  "Well if it isn't my bitch!" Eli obnoxiously shouted. Maya and Veronica just glared at him.

  If glares could kill, Eli would be six feet under right about now.

  Wallace just looked nervous and shaken.
