Fanfictions

Ok, so obviously the first one is actually kind of Ironic. So let's get started shall we.

Fanfics, stories, whatever the fuck someone calls them. Me? I tend to mostly call them stories, because that's what they are to me. Stories.

But of course everyone has either read or is reading a fanfic, whether it's a book (yes those are technically fanfictions) or an actual one online by some amateur person, and while most are good; the story makes sense, the characters have good development, and it just flows perfectly. There are some that fucking suck.

And no I do not mean as in, 'Your story is just a basic cliche piece of garbage and makes almost zero to nothing sense whatsoever.' (Even if some are like that). What I mean is the fanfics that, while have an awesome plot, either the grammar or just the style pisses me the fuck off.

One that I fucking hate so much is where two characters dialogue are in the same text box. Like this:

"Why is it that you love me?" She asked, her eyes shining brightly. "Because," He paused, "Who else could I be more in love with?"

Okay, this right here, pisses me off. It makes me feel like the character is answering herself even it the guy is answering. I cannot stress enough how much it kills me to read an awesome fanfic with an interesting plot and THIS is their dialogue. There have been a couple of times I actually gave up the fanfics because I got so confused with the dialogue that it hurt to even understand.

Another thing that just HURTS to read is blocky text. As you can see in my (probably annoying) text of this page, I'm using spaces to at least, but there are some fanfictions that have just this huge fucking paragraph of shit happening, and I can understand if you're explaining like the scenery or how someone looks, but if both of those explanations are in the same text box, you obviously have something wrong going on. Grammar-wise, you're actually supposed to separate those descriptions, like you are with dialogue, it gives the brain a chance to visualize and separate the two things as their own thoughts or visions or whatever the fuck, but if it's one huge block of text then the brain gets confused and becomes painful and ends up giving me a massive migraine from the strain of trying to read this huge block of text, such as this piece of description.

Non-descriptive fanfics. Ok, I may or may not be hypocritical about this one, I truly don't know as I don't read my own fanfics (every now and then I'll attempt it and fail already knowing the plot and ending), but this actually pisses me off as well.

When making a book an author usually tries to be as descriptive about the scenery, the people, or the items they are writing about. This gives the reader a sense of ACTUALLY being there, losing themselves from the real world and becoming one in the reality of fiction or literature or whatever you're into.

Of course, this being an amateur website of Fanfics (yeah, I said it) a lot of the times people don't actually explain anything about where their characters are or something like that. I can kind of understand if you're explaining it from a TV show that someone has seen and know what you're talking about, or from a video game. Then you don't have to be THAT descriptive, but you have to at least give some sort of scene.

This does not give you a reason to not actually tell where you're at if you're character is in some new realm or dimension or whatever the hell. YOU HAVE TO ACTUALLY EXPLAIN THE FUCKING PLACE!! Otherwise your readers get confused and all that's left is for them to attempt to figure out where they are.

Again, I may or may not be hypocritical on this, A friend of mine actually said (because they read my stories) "Hey, you should add some scenery to your stories, what you have is good, but basic. Try being a little more descriptive." And they were right, when I went back it was basically:

"In this town was a bakery, armory, and the houses that were scattered around the town."

It gave A scene, but not one that made you feel apart of the story. So I updated it;

"Going down the dirt road, I glanced around the town before me. The smell of baked goods drifted around the area causing me to glance over to the bakery on the right of me, baked goods were sat out to cool, giving the delicious smell and making people want to come in. The sound of metal clashing with metal brought my attention to the left as I say a smith holding down a blazing hot sword, his hammer swinging down to fully create it. Around him was many other metal items; from swords and shields, to helmets and armor. At the top of his little shack was a large sign with the word 'Armory' on it. Continuing on I glanced at the small little houses that were scattered around the road, each with different rooftops and stuff in their yards, indicating them to be houses."

See, definitely more descriptive. Although I was starting to give up and rush near the end, it gave a sense of being int he small area with the bakery and armory and houses.

Lastly, the thing EVERYONE has a pet peeve for:

Unfinished Fanfics.

Okay, this one I know I'm definitely hypocritical for.

BUT FOR FUCKS SAKE!! EVERYONE HATES IT!!

For those who don't know this (which I would be surprised about) is basically when you find an awesome fanfic. It's like you're dream boyfriend. The characters are all so diverse, you're always on your seat, the grammar is superb, and it just draws you into reading more and more, pretty much craving it!

The only problem? You're on chapter, like, 14 or 15 (a perfect amount to show the person was into the story as well) and you just finish it.

'Oh well, guess I'll wait till it updates' You think to yourself, but upon checking the last updated slot thing. IT UPDATED YEARS AGO!!

You check the comments section, everyone asking when the dudes going to update it, and he gives no reason. Just, "I'm not coming back to it, sorry guys." Or whatever.

And you are DEVASTATED!!

It pisses me off! AT LEAST GIVE A DAMN REASON TO YOUR QUITTING!! There was one time this happened to me and I waited WEEKS before I realized that it hadn't updated in years.

Now while I have this problem on one of my stories (the girl who found the wolf or whatever the title was) I still have a few drafts that I had worked on (yet never actually edited or published) and while I did not explain why I left (which I actually hate that I haven't given a reason for why). I actually do plan on going back to it when I have time, hence the drafts (that I still haven't edited).

Okay, I've actually run out of steam on this topic.....

and now I feel bad about my one fanfic T_T

Oh well, I got Homework and online classes I got to do. If some of you agree with me on this give a like, if not oh well -shrug- I could actually care less.

I'm just ranting really.

Chow then~
