Chapter 5- Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe
--Emily’s POV—
After Mio’s egoistical proclamation of the game ‘Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe’ we were all dragged to Josh’s backyard, which was of course, twice as big as his house, and it consisted of people making out wildly in the dim light, jocks and their blondes (you know what I mean) and lastly, a big gigantic board that was with two people on the opposite sides. So this was ultimate tic-tac-toe.
Mio was excited as a kid for Christmas that he put me up first as the tribute for the next round. “Here,” the freaky guy gave me a piece of hockey puck twice its original size and smirked at me when I knitted my eyebrows in confusion “Don’t know how it’s played missy?” he raised his eyebrows and I shook my head, examining the big piece of plastic I was holding. “That piece of plastic you are holding is a hockey puck, deary,” He took the puck from my hand and continued “This game is like hockey, you hit the puck with your assigned shape and whatever slot it goes to will be your turn at tic-tac-toe” He smiled showing off the disgusting yellow teeth of his and went away.
“Mio signed you up first?!” A familiar drunk voice slurred its way to the three of us. Well who would it be? Well it would be drunk Allie.
“Heyyy guuuys- Wait hey, hey! I thought I got rid of you!” The familiar guy that saved Allie’s strip dancing on the table reappeared and carried Allie bridal style while Allie was struggling to get him off her but eventually failed falling asleep on the guy’s arms.
“Hey!” I called out to the guy that was carrying Allie and he turned around to face me “Who are you?” I questioned eyeing him up and down. He didn’t look like a jock or a nerd. In fact he actually looked like a good boy. He had this angelic look that would woo girls and a cute dimple forming his cheeks when he smirked and nodded his head. “I’m Luke Summers,” He introduced but couldn’t extend his hand since he was carrying snoring Allie who was incredibly sprawled all over Luke’s arms “I’m just your grade and I saved your best friend from the most possible worst thing that she would regret in her life” He said in a matter-of-factly tone. This got me curious “Why did you do that?” I cocked an eyebrow at him and he flushed “I mean why did you have to care when Allie Hale, the ‘nobody’ like me was about to strip on the table?” His face was filled with softness and he made no move to cover it up “So you’re trying to tell me you’re asking me if I like Allie?”
“Yes”
“Listen Montez,” He dragged me closer “I at least respect the fact that I am concerned with Allie Hale and her problems and problematic people drink, this is Allie’s first time to get drunk because she handles problems better than you,” His expression darkened and he started talking again “Who tends to listen to those so-called ‘punk rock’ music that destroys the brain and brainwashes it to make people realize that the world is cruel.” He finished off with a smug smirk on his face.
“Hey, Em-Em!” Mio was signaling that it was my turn to play tic-tac-toe and gestured me to go to the board. Luke’s comment was a low-blow. I’ve been through worse, he doesn’t know my full story, why I’m like this, why I wore this, he doesn’t know a thing about me! We just talked! I looked back at Luke and said “Because life is cruel, and Allie does handle it better, that’s why she’s the one everyone adores right?” I gave him the sweetest smile he could and ran off to see a pissed Mio. “Sorry,” I said twiddling with my puck which I just noticed that I was still holding on to it. “I just—“
“And up is EMO EMILY on Team Mio” the announcer spoke on the speakers and turned to face Mio with a questioning look over me. Emo Emily, great, just great “But how did Mio pick that weird girl over the school’s hottest girl, Erica Camel?” The announcer spoke rudely and looked over to me with a smug look on his face
