Chapter Six- Something Unusual

---Mio’s POV---

I was happy!

No scratch that, I was absolutely jumping in joy!

Team Mio had won!

We actually got a freaking plastic trophy! Okay well maybe Emily did but still…

WE WON ULTIMATE TIC-TAC-TOE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was jolly as the announcer who had proclaimed Emily as the ‘loser’ handed Emily’s trophy and mouthed a ‘congratulations, weirdo’ to her. She shrugged it off and shyly tilted her head downwards examining the trophy before giving it to me. I stared at her bewildered. She giving it to me??

“What’s this for?” I asked eyeing the trophy up and down, the inscription ‘CHAMPION’ were clearly hurried and messed up. Ofcourse, since Emily won you guys would mess it up my mind angrily thought. All these years I have noticed Emily, even after her seventh birthday she started distancing from people and lost her friends.

How do I know you ask? She doesn’t remember ‘Jamey-James’ from her childhood, the Jamey-James that would be so nice to her and give her his last piece of cookie every time bullies would take hers.

I know her for so long and she forgot everyone.

I turned to see Emily shyly smiling at me and shrugging at the same time “I don’t know,” she replied “I guess I knew you were so hooked up with this game you deserved it” She tried to compile herself into a smile but I soon noticed something else behind the smile.

“What’s wrong?” I asked her and she looked away from me. My smile faded and turned into confusion. “Nothing,” she replied at once. She looked panicked like I was chuckie doll or something. “I’m just tired, that’s all” and as if on cue, she yawned loudly stretching out her arms and hitting people who passed. She noticed her torture and shyly put her arms back to the side. “Tired?” I asked and she nodded. I looked up  at my phone and read the time: 7:30 PM. She blushed knowing that no one at our school is destined to sleep at SEVEN THIRTY in THE FREAKING EVENING.

“I am tired,” She tried to yawn but it came out as an embarrassing sneeze that sent me laughing my a*s off. She turned scarlet and started hitting me in the arm

“I…. Cant believe… you…” I couldn’t finish my sentence out of laughter and almost flopped on the grass. Buckets of blood poured out on Emily’s face as she too rolled her eyes and started laughing with me.

So basically, for 2 straight hours, I teased and laughed with her at the backyard, not caring who sees or notices.

Because that smile and laugh is the thing she lost when she was seven.

--EMILY’S POV—

Pretending to yawn to make Mio realize I wanted to go home was easy at my first. But when I ‘yawned’ the second time, it had actually caused both of us to laugh our butts off for two freaking hours. I smacked Mio’s arm as he tried to copy the embarrassing scenario that had caused all of this. “I….Cant…Breath” Mio struggled to say the sentence through fits of laughter. Me on the other hand, couldn’t say anything due to laughter. Because one time when we stopped to breath, Mio had actually sneezed on Josh’s dog making it chase Mio all around the backyard. Josh eventually had to take it and call Mio a ‘disgusting idiot’ before going back inside and letting it free.

I had finally gained enough breath to say something but I was stopped by Mio’s voice “You distracted me enough,” he breathed heavily holding his chest moving up and down “Now tell me what was bothering you a while ago.”
