Chapter 12

After walking for a while, we heard a scream. I looked towards Huo Rong as he looked at me with the same scared expression, and ran towards the sound. "C'mon, sweetheart! Just this once, " said a male's voice.

"Never! Stay away from me, snake!" replied the woman. Soon, we saw two figures grappling for dominance. Soon, the woman, who was extremely beautiful beyond belief, was on the ground. Then, as if stalking his prey, the man, who seemed young and muscular, climbed over the woman. I looked at Huo Rong as I flicked my eyes over to them. Huo Rong put a finger to his lips as he got his xun flute and started to play a soft melody. The man rolled his eyes. I prayed that he wouldn't find us. I heard footsteps coming toward us. I bit my lip as I started unsheathing my dagger, then lunged for the man. He quickly turned, got up, and swatted at me as if I were a fly, with not even a scrape on him.

My back hit the ground hard. "This is none of your concern, you pest!" the man roared as he stalked over to me. "You should learn to stay out of the affairs of Lu Dongbin! You'll get hurt..."

"Wait... Lu Dongbin of the Eight Immortals?" I asked as my eyes widened and I my vision returned to me. Huo Rong immediately fell on one knee. I looked at him. He nodded for me to do the same, and I quickly followed suit. "My lord, I didn't recognize you. Forgive me."

"Immortal or not, why are you antagonizing this helpless young lady?" asked Huo Rong as he got up, pushed past me, and pointed an accusing finger at the Immortal.

"I was just having a little fun..." he said with a smirk. "Isn't that right, Mudan...?"

"You'd love to think that..." the other immortal muttered.

Dongbin smirked. "Where are you two going...?"

"We're supposed to find a way to enhance our cultivation, and we've come to Penglai seeking help."

"Ah..." said Lady Mudan. "Well...maybe we can help you fulfill your purposes, Princess Meifeng."

"Thank you, my lady. But, isn't that technically cheating...?"

She smirked a bit, looking over her shoulder at the two of us. "It's not cheating if you do it right..." she said as we walked.
