On The Loose, Chapter 2: New Faces
Ever heard of the idiom "Don't stick your nose where it doesn't belong"? Because that's what Dahyun thought she should've done rather than witness that scene.
Darn, curiosity really killed the cat this time.
The horrified look on the man's face has been stuck in her mind for 4 hours straight ever since. The suppressed sound of the gunshot keeps on replaying in her ears like music.
Heck, the WHOLE scene has been replaying in her mind, again, and again, and again. She never really liked to see other people suffer. Whenever she sees or thinks about these kinds of stuff, it never fails to give her goosebumps.
And to make things much worse, it reminded her of the time back when her 2 months old pet kitten ran outside their house and went under a car and there she witnessed the kitten's head getting crushed by the tire of the same car while she stood by their front door watching the car ride away.
She couldn't do anything but scream and cry her heart out back then. Her parents ran to her and kept asking her what's wrong, why she's crying, and so on, and so forth.
Something similar is happening right now, well except that she's not crying and screaming unlike of what she did back then, and it's not her parents who are bombarding her with questions. But instead, it's her roommate, her best friend, her childhood friend, Chaeyoung.
The younger girl looked at the figure who is now sitting idly on their couch, and decided to break the silence, but not before asking herself, why her best friend looks so frozen, unmoved, and pale—paler than her usual skin tone.
"Are you okay?" She asked the older one. She definitely isn't okay, way to go Chaeyoung! She scolded herself.
But she was replied with silence.
"What the hell happened to you?" She tried again.
Silence.
She waved her hands in front of Dahyun. The older's eyes are focused on the space, which scared the hell out of her.
"H-hey....? Y-you're not dead, a-are you?" she stammered, her voice shaking.
Again, she was replied with silence. So she decided to do the most logical way she could only come up with and readied herself in a position—like when runners would ready their self for the 100-meter dash. And then finally, she has got the courage (that lasted for 2 seconds) and then smacked the older girl's head and ran to their room.
But wait, she didn't hear any loud footsteps following her, so she took a peek at the figure on the couch in their living room at their bedroom's doorframe.
She then went back to where she was standing at in the living room a while ago and faced Dahyun again. And looked at the older one's eyes, and—what the hell, they are blank—too blank, it's like they are lifeless.
So she shook the unmoving figure, her voice raising little by little as she repeatedly asked:
"What happened?"
"Are you okay?"
"You're okay, right?"
"Don't give me the silent treatment now!"
"Aish, unnie!"
"Don't do this."
"What the hell happened to you?!"
And finally, her endless trials for trying to get the attention of the older one has come to an end, when her beloved childhood friend looked at her, with a blank stare, her head moving to face the girl like a rusty robot.
