Shade was exhausted and irritated. She was a living nightmare as she walked down the hallways of the Facility, the reason of her annoyance following right behind her.
"You can't just walk away from me like that!" Scorch shouted as she ran towards her, making her roll her eyes and speed up slightly. She was not in the mood to deal with dramatics. Not when she had a job that she had to do.
And just where was that MIA partner of hers?
"Shade, there you are!," she nearly sighed in relief when she heard his voice, not that she'd ever tell him exactly how relieved she was.
Mainly because now she knew how to get rid of her tail.
"Storm!" she marched up to him with a glare, which he met with confusion. "Where have you been? I told you that we have a very important mission that we have to do and you came late AGAIN?!?." She grabbed him and dragged him off before he could say anything that would give her away, motioning with her eyes to Scorch behind her. He nodded subtly and started playing along.
"Of course," he smirked, throwing in a wink for good measure. "You know that it takes long to look this good." She rolled her eyes at him as she dragged him down the hallway to the Training Rooms.
"You mean like a train wreck?" She scoffed, earning an indignant huff from him as she continued. "Cool that ego of yours before you struggle to get through these doors, okay?"
"Har har," he muttered under his breath as she opened the door to one of the training rooms and dragged him with her, closing the door behind them.
They both stood in silence in the darkness of the room as they heard footsteps go past their door. They sighed in relief before Storm made himself comfortable leaning against the wall, watching silently as she did the same. Once she was also slightly more relaxed, he probed her for information.
"So," he dragged out, making her bite back a sigh as she hoped that he would leave it be. "What did Scorch do for you to force me to endure the ferocity of your wrath?" She rolled her eyes at the fact that he somehow managed to mock her and ask with genuine curiosity.
"The usual," she shrugged, not even caring about the maniac anymore. "You know, how you're hers and that I'm just seeking attention and you two will be together eventually so I should just leave you two be already, the usual." he snickered as she rolled her eyes at Scorch's obsession with Storm, something she could not fathom.
Probably because she worked with him.
"Awww, c'mon, Shade," Storm said dramatically. "You know that the only person in this heart of mine is you."
"And pizza," she chuckled at his lovestruck expression as he held a hand to his chest.
"Of course!" she bit her lip to hide her chuckle as he pretended to gaze off into the distance, before turning to her with a chuckle, both of them laughing lightly for a moment as they enjoyed each other's company. After they sobered up, Storm looked at her with a soft smile.
"May I ask what the real reason behind you avoiding her is?" Storm raised an eyebrow when she sighed. She motioned to the door and shook her head. "She decided to take her obsession to the next level and try to get rid of me."
Storm stood still with a blank expression before bursting into barely concealed laughter, which only worsened when Shade chuckled along with him, agreeing with the ridiculousness of the situation. They both eyed the door as they attempted to block their laughter, which only seemed to make it worse. Shade calmed herself first and chuckled softly as Storm calmed down. They smiled as they looked at each other until Storm ruined the moment.
"So," he drew out, making her turn to him with a raised eyebrow as he looked at her with a smirk. "Word on the street is that Phillen is holding another concert where they need to fill a questionnaire to-" he stopped and looked at her pleadingly as she groaned in annoyance at what he wanted her to do.
Storm was the alias of Phillen Verlont, the up and coming pop star singer. He was an adrenaline junky who had signed up to the Facility for the thrill only being a secret agent could bring. He was well known and well beloved by the whole female population in Shade's school.
Naturally, Shade felt differently.
"Philly," she sighed as he pulled a puppy face at her. "We've been over this. I know you want to hang out after training, but-"
"Just once," he pleaded. "Please. I'm going on tour soon. I just want to meet you outside once. I won't even ask you for your actual name or anything. Heck, you can come with your obsessed friend and even Night can-"
"Hey!" She cut him off with a glare as they left the room and headed to the exit of the Facility. "She is not that obsessed. I know of girls in my class who are more obsessed than her! And just because Night was my pair does not mean I will allow you to try and recover your ego from me arriving to the Facility with Night as my partner. Got it?" The glare she gave him sent visible shivers up his spine. Even though he got a thrill of adrenaline from pushing her, he knew where to draw the line.
"Ma'am, yes ma'am," he saluted her as they waited by the door for Night to finish up. He always politely waited at the entrance for her to go completely before leaving as well. It was a sort of system that they developed. She looked to the door and silently waited for Night. They talked about random things and funny stories and were in tears by the time Night came out.
Night was one of Shades closest friends and the reason behind her being in the Agency. She practically grew up with Night, always doing everything together and occasionally training together should Storm be otherwise busy.
Which significantly decreased the moment he discovered that they trained together.
But through her ups and downs, Night had been her one friend and companion. When her father had been struggling for money to keep the family afloat, he had helped her get a job in the Agency, which was no minor feat.
Everyone had been expecting her and Night to be partners. They were called the Power couple, so in sync that they both would occasionally talk as if they were twins.
She smiled when she spotted Night hurrying to her side, waving goodbye to his partner, Electric. He stopped in front of her and panted, resting his hands on his knees as he caught his breath. He motioned for her to get in the car after he sufficiently caught his breath. She smiled and waved at Phillen, whom smiled softly and waved back.
Without further ado, they disappeared from his sight, a small dot fading from existence. With a soft sigh, he too left.
