It was a blissful afternoon, and I was in my room. My window was cracked, letting some of the September chills in. I sat on my floor, laying on my stomach. I was reading a book. I was 5 pages in, and I already loved it. It was magical, and I knew I would most likely cry at the end of it. My dog ran in through my door, barking like he had something to say. I put my bookmark in, and put my book on my table.
My dog was now licking my face, and rubbing her rough paws over my arm. "Hello!" I laughed, pushing her a bit to get her to stop. She laid down next me, resting her head on my knee. She was a toasted color brown corgi. Her name was Juniper. I thought she was the most beautiful dog on the planet. I grabbed her, and laid her on my lap. She looked like a dumb baby, but she was my dumb baby.
It was funny staring at her from above. She looked like she was smiling, but also putting on a funny smile. Her blue eyes looked like the ocean, with a million jellyfish in them. She was absolutely adorable. "YESENIA!" My mother shouted, "DINNER!" I sighed, and picked up Juniper. I carried her to the dining room, and set her by her food bowl. I took a seat in my chair, and waited for my mother to set my food down on the table.
She scooped some food onto a plate, and set it down. I took one look at it, and it seemed like she heated up mud from outside. I gulped, then swallowed it. I finished in 5 seconds, flat. "Pig." Mother said, disgusted by me. The dinner made me feel sick, but I wasn't going to puke.
"I'm going out." I told her, leashing up Juniper.
"Okay." She replied, tired sounding.
We had dinner early, and I didn't have to be back until 9:00 pm. It was currently 5:42. I had 3 hours. I decided I was going to the forest. There was a thick part of briers I wanted to go through, because I was curious to see what was back there. It took about 5 minutes to get there. Juniper was staying right by my side as we walked, taking our sweet time. The edge of the forest was coming into sight, and it made me feel tranquil, and peaceful.
Juniper seemed to also share my emotions, and I couldn't help but smile. I walked into the forest, and it looked muddy. The fallen branches, the stray leaves, and paw prints in the dirt gave it the forest "look." We walked farther in, and Juniper looked like she was ready to attack. I saw a squirrel run by, and she tried to go after it. She was barking like mad.
I eventually calmed her down, and we came up to the thick mess of branch-bush-looking trees. I looked for an opening, then spotted a gap where we could go to. There were some branches
blocking the way, but I pushed them off. We came up to a lake.Oh. My. God.
It was beautiful.
There was no mud, no branches, and no leaves. Just emerald green grass, some cattail plant, and grasses. Everything seemed to have a purplish tint to it.
The water was a diamond blue, but also crystal clear. I could see a few fish, and frogs. They were equally beautiful. Juniper looked at the lake like it was her home, and I was starting to feel the same way. I always knew we could share emotions. It was warm here, the sun shining onto the lake. I pulled off my hoodie, and sat by the bank of the lake.Juniper, being the adorable pup she is, dove right into the water. Her fur went back, making her look like a smooth stone. I laughed at her, in a playful way. I stood by the edge now, watching her have fun. The sand at the bottom looked clear, so I stepped in. It was soft too. I waded in, and started swimming with her. I would splash water at her, then she would ram her head onto the surface, making an even bigger splash.
We went on like this for awhile. Juniper seemed so cute when her fur was dripping, and she looked like a puppy again. She was three years old, and she looked so adorable. We got out of the lake, and sat where my coat was. We laid down, and dried off in the sun, our bodies getting warm. I rolled over to look at her, and she had her paws in the air like a bunny, and her legs were spread out. She looked like a little baby.
I couldn't help but smile. She always made me happy, whether she was being bad or good. She rolled over too, and we made eye contact, or noses touching. She licked my nose soft like, then rested her head on my arm. She closed her eyes, and fell asleep. Her fur glistened, casting a
radiating glow of happiness everywhere.I soon, fell asleep too, forgetting I had to be home soon.
I awoke when it was dark. Juniper was still here, and she jumped up when I awoke. My mom was going to kill me. I reached for my jacket, and put it on. My clothes were dry. I began to sob, worrying what my mom would do. It was definitely past 9:00 pm, maybe around 11:00 or 12:00. I was scared, because I had never been out here at night before. It was kind of terrifying, but Juniper licked my face, and I knew it was alright. I grabbed her leash, and strode home.
I knew she would protect me against anything.
The only reason I had her was because my mom couldn't deal with me when I had anxiety attacks. After awhile it got so bad that she just gave me a dog and told her to calm me down. Sure enough, it worked out. We've had her ever since. I couldn't remember where we came in to the lake at, and immediately started to panic again.
Juniper noticed this, and bolted. I ran with her, and we went through the exit. She ran me home. Literally.
I saw the house coming up, and my panic subsided. She stopped running, slowing to a trot. She looked like a proud little thing, her head up high, and lifting her legs high to walk. She was proud once again she had stopped my anxiety from getting to 100. I opened my house door, to find my mom.
She looked so furious, I thought smoke was coming out of her ears.
I knew i was in deep trouble.
