Sunshine burned at her tired eyes, causing her to whimper and squeeze them shut tighter.  'Damn it.' She thought. She had forgotten to shut the blinds. She sat up slowly as to not wake the small sleeping form next to her. She rose and stretched a bit, then stepped over to her dark curtains and pulled them shut.

She turned back around and looked  at her daughter. She was still so small. Lady smiled softly. She could hardly remember a time before Ivy. They were both so young. She reached beside her for the watch on her desk and saw that it was 7:15. Taking a soft breath she rubbed the remaining sleep from her eyes and headed for the kitchen. She stuck two pieces of bread in the toaster and switched the television onto some random children's show; the channel it was always on. The voices on the television were drowned by the thoughts occurring in Lady's head.

Ivy would turn 5 soon. And still sleeping with her mother. Some people would say Lady was coddling her. If it was true, neither of them cared much. Lady was there to keep Ivy's  nightmares away; and Ivy was there for the same reason.

Lady walked back into the bedroom once breakfast was finished and jumped on the bed excitedly.

"Wake up, Ivy!" She called happily.

The little girl shifted, annoyed, rubbing her eyes and groaning. "Not yet, mommy." And pretended to sleep again.

Lady smiled, now getting on her knees and hovering over her daughter on the bed. "Oh but Ivy, I'm so hungry!" She called. "Maybe just a nibble.." She whispered and lifted one of her daughter's tiny fingers, bringing it to her lips. She kissed it twice and then stuck it in her mouth and nibbled gently, causing her daughter to giggle but keep her eyes shut. Lady lifted Ivy's shirt just enough to reveal her child's full stomach. She latched her mouth onto it and blew aggressively. This finally tickled Ivy enough to cause her to squirm,  laughing loudly and opening her eyes.

"Good morning, sugar." Lady said.

"Good morning." Her daughter gave her a quick peck and allowed herself to be carried to the kitchen. They ate breakfast quickly  and got ready together in the cramped bathroom.

"Park today?" Ivy spoke while brushing her teeth, foam spilling from her mouth. Lady smiled at how adorable she was.
"We'll see."

Lady was working the late shift at the Derry drugstore ever since they began opening 23 hours a day; so time with her daughter, especially mornings, were precious to her.

Lady walked her daughter out to the bus stop in her PJs and waited for only a moment before her daughter was welcomed onto the the bus. "See you later, alligator." She called tiredly. "In a while crocodile." Her daughter responded and disappeared into the bus.

She waved goodbye and watched as the bus headed down the road. A chill ran up her spine and at first she tried to dismiss it as the wind, but she knew the trees stood still. She knew this chill was from something, someone else. She looked across the street to where the school bus had previously resided, and she saw it. Him.
There, just at the edge of the woods, stood a terrifying clown.
