Every Bad Dream

Lady woke up on a filthy wet floor of somewhere dark and cold. The smell made her gag but compared to the rest of the situation, the smell was the least of her problems.

     "Hiya, red."

A voice emerged from the darkness. Though it was impossible, the voice sounded as if it were right next to her ear, and she shivered because of it.

"Who are you?!" She shouted and tried to stand but failed. Her legs felt numb.

"Don't you know?" He asked.

Lady slowly moved her hand over a nearby stone as her eyes scanned the darkness for the crazed clown. When something finally did emerge from the dark, it was not the clown as she had expected and her grip loosened on the rock at her realization. It was the man. The one that robbed her of her virginity, robbed her of a childhood, of parents, of her young life. The one that reeked of whiskey and sweat even still, was walking slowly over to her and she could do nothing.

She shook with fear as he knelt directly in front of her. Grabbing her by the throat he lifted her up to stand on her weak legs.

"Did you miss me, sweetie?"

He grinded against her and bit hard against her shoulder, drawing both blood and tears from Lady.

"Y-you're not real." Her voice shook. "Not. Real..."

The man pulled away from her shoulder and smiled. "Oh I'm real. It's as real as I want it to be..." He trailed off, voice getting deeper as he slipped his fingers under her dress.

She gasped and kneed him in the groin. Acting quickly, she was thankful for the large rock as she hit him hard in the face with it. Down went the man but there was still nowhere to run. Instead she resolved to finding as many things as possible down there that could hurt him. She threw random objects,  toys she later realized, and backed away from the huddled man.

"Where is my daughter you piece of shit?!"

When the being stood and turned to face her, he had transformed back into that horrid clown. He smiled at her and stepped towards her slowly as he spoke.
"Ivy, right?" Her stomach filled with knots at her name on his lips.

"Little girl about yay high, pig tails, cute as a button just like her mom? In a pink dress right?" He spoke quickly and nodded. "Haven't seen her."

     "Fuck you!"

"I'm serious, she must have gotten lost in here; the sewers really are no place for children, you shouldn't just let your daughter run rampant like that."

She picked up a metal rod she'd been eyeing and swung it at him hard, but to her dismay, he caught it.
Holding it in his hand, his smile grew and he began swinging it playfully at her. He was backing her into a corner.

"Stop it!"

She screamed as he swung increasingly close to her face. 'This is it.' She thought as the back of her legs hit against something. She had nowhere left to run and that monster was only a foot away. He reached a hand out to her heaving chest and rested his index finger in the center.

"Boo!"  He said, pushing her back onto what she now realized was a disgusting mattress. He dropped the pipe and laughed hysterically.

     "Why are you doing this?!"

"Why are you doing this?!" He mocked.

She watched in horror as he seemed to be having the time of his life.

"Oh!" He slapped a gloved hand against his forehead. "You must forgive me. I've forgotten to introduce myself." He giggled and took a bow. "Well I'm Pennywise; the dancing clown!" He did a twirl and then hopped on the bed so that he towered over her. "And you're Lady Grimes; the town whore."

Tears welled in her eyes once again at the sight and sound of him. "Oh but you don't have to worry about me, Lady." He plopped down so that he was only holding himself above her by his hands and his knees.

"I would never judge you. Not like them. See they don't understand you. I do... I know about the horrors, the sleepless nights, the guttural pain you get right here," he lifted one hand to point to her stomach as he straddled her, "and right here," He spoke in a whisper now and slowly trailed his finger up to her heart, "that stabs like a knife."

Suddenly his eyes shifted to a glowing gold and he quickly, almost violently licked from her chest to her jaw. Now his voice was rough.

"You see, red, I'm every bad dream you've ever had."

She shivered, mouth agape, and his eyes returned to blue. "C'mon." He leapt off the bed and stuck his hand out in welcoming. She stared at it, confused beyond belief.
"Well you want to find your daughter dontcha?" He said as though it were obvious. She sat up, not taking his hand.

"Where is she?" He rolled his uneven eyes and grabbed her hand pulling her up.

"We have to look for her." He gasped, dropping her still shaking hand.
"I've got an even better idea! We'll make it a game!"

He smiled, showing off his buck teeth. "If you find her, you can both go home. You'll never hear from this old sad clown again." He made an exaggerated frown. Her heart leapt at the notion.
"But!" He chuckled darkly. "If I find her first..." He brushed a loose piece of ginger hair behind Lady's ear and clicked his tongue as he playfully socked her in her bleeding shoulder, throwing her a wink.
"Well, you just better start lookin'."

He licked his lips. "Catch!" He pulled a flash light from thin air and disappeared. Only his voice was present.

     "Go."
