Simon sat on their couch enjoying the feel of Augusta sitting astride his lap and running her hands across his hairless scalp. Augusta giggled. “You realize you purr like a spoiled cat whenever I rub your head.”

Simon opened one eye and gave her a halfcocked grin.

“Dinner was excellent. I was never much of a soup eater until I met you. What kind was that again?”

“Butternut squash and sage; I’m glad you enjoyed it Augie dear.”

“Breaking news in the three month old case of missing college student Damon Black. The authorities have confirmed that reports of the body found in the barrel, near the river in Oslo Park, is in fact that of the twenty-one year old junior. Using genetic testing, the medical examiner was able to verify the remains. A criminology and psychology double major, friends and family tell that he had hopes of one day working as a criminal profiler with the FBI. Damon Black is now also the sixth confirmed victim of The Soupmaker; the first confirmed victim in a little over two years. Authorities have still have no suspects. Next on News 2-”

Augusta turned off the television then threw the remote to the other side of the couch. “So sad to hear. He seemed to be the quiet type but Damon was always helpful when I went to the supermarket.”

Simon nodded. The muscle in his jaw remained relaxed.
