"What the fu-" Austin stopped short when Edith the lunch lady shot him a look. Elizabeth wasn't at their table, she was with Tony. Some stupid guy from their English class. And they were laughing and smiling.
Austin's stomach churned and he wasn't hungry anymore.
"Hey," a familiar voice said. It was Sabrina.
"What?" he spins around.
"Ah," she nods in the direction of their friend, "jealous?"
"What? No!" he shakes his head.
"Mhm," she smirks and walks off.
He wasn't jealous because that'd be gross. Right? She was like his sister. His sister that he wanted to kiss- no. No, no, no. He leaves the cafeteria, looking for somewhere quiet. His phone goes off, Elizabeth.
"Hey," she says.
"What?" he snaps.
"Wait, is everything okay? I saw you leave?" She asks.
"I just figured you'd want some alone time with your boyfriend," he says. He knows she doesn't deserve his shit, after all he isn't even allowed to be jealous. She's not his. He's not hers. They're not a thing.
"Boyfriend? Austin what are you talking about?" She sounds offended.
"Nothing, I'm sorry," he sighs.
"It's whatever, we still on for that movie later?" She asks hopefully.
"Sure," he grins.
"I'll meet you-"
"I'll pick you up, we can walk," he suggests.
"Sounds good," she agrees.
"See you," he hangs up. He wonders what he has to do to make this a date.
