As they walk, his hand brushes hers. Was that a coincidence? Was she being weird? This was normal, right? Being nervous? Was this a date? They discuss school and if there was homework until they enter the lobby.
"What do you wanna see?" He asks.
"Up to you, I gotta go to the bathroom," she hurries off, whipping out her phone.
She quickly googles, "how to tell if it's a date". She reads through the list and finds him in the lobby.
"I thought we could go see the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie, unrated," he suggests, "10 times more blood."
"You know how how I feel about gory movies," she gives him a look.
"Okay," he sighs, "if you don't wanna."
She really can't say no to his pout, "alright, but if I puke I'm aiming towards you."
"Fair enough," he shrugs and they wait in line until they're able to purchase tickets.
"$16.96," the lady says. Elizabeth reaches in her pocket and pulls out $8.
"What are you doing? I got this," he pushes her hand back down.
"I can-" but before she can protest he's handed over the money. The cashier gives them each a ticket and says, "please no making out in the theater."
"Uh," Elizabeth's mouth falls open.
"Come on," he reaches for her hand and pulls her away.
Once they're away from the counter and he's let her go she lifts her hand back up, still grasping the $8, "I'm paying you back."
"No you're not," he says.
"Yes I am, you didn't have to do that," she insists.
"Let me be a gentleman for once, will you?" He smiles at her.
"I can pay for myself," she mutters.
"I know," he nods, "but it's kind of a big deal if the guy doesn't pay."
"That's only a big deal on dates," she says, her frustration growing.
"Well what is this?" he's almost yelling now.
"I don't know," she raises her voice.
"Is this date?" He asks.
"Do you want it to be?" She yells.
"Do you?"
"Maybe," she says, her tone softening.
"Ok then," he nods, "I'm gonna go get some popcorn," and he heads towards the snacks.
She finds theater 3 and finds some seats near the middle. He returns with a bucket of popcorn and a Pepsi.
Halfway through the movie she's ready to puke, with her face buried in her hoodie.
"You know the whole point of seeing this movie was so when you got scared I'd be here," he teases.
"I'm going to punch you," she laughs.
"Just saying," he shrugs. She leans a little closer to him, so he takes this as an indication that breaking the touch barrier is okay. He does that cheesy yawn thing where he reaches over and wraps his arm around her.
"Did you really just do that?" she smiles at him.
"I don't see you protesting," he whispers. She gives him a playfully dirty look.
She seems to be enjoying the movie when there aren't guts everywhere. Although she'd still rather grip the arm rests for dear life when it gets scary than go to him, but he's okay with it.
When the movie finishes he asks if she'll go out and get ice cream with him. Thankfully, she agrees and he holds the door open for her as they leave the building.
"This is kinda weird," she laughs.
"What? Did I do something wrong? Is chivalry really dead?" He asks.
"No, I just meant usually you'd race me to the door and then trip me," she smiles.
"I could stop?" He offers.
"It's pretty cute," she admits.
"I try," he shrugs modestly. They get to the ice cream parlor and he holds the door. While she's crossing the threshold he trips her and then catches her.
"A little bit of both," he says.
"Haha, funny," she scoffs.
"What do you want?" He asks, gesturing to the menu.
"Nothing honestly," she says.
"What?" He looks at her, "I'm not gonna eat in front of you."
"After seeing those kids get their heads sawed off I'm not really hungry," she tells him.
"That bad?" He grimaces.
"It was okay," she says,"I wouldn't go again, but it was alright."
"Sorry," he chuckles dryly.
"No big deal," she looks around, "I'm gonna go sit down."
"Okay," he smiles at her. When she finds a booth in the back she has the strong urge to call Sabrina and Adrianna, but why get them excited over one date? So she just sits quietly. He returns with two little cups of ice cream and scoots in beside her.
"There's an entire bench right there," she gestures to the other side of the booth.
"Well you're over here," he grins.
"For someone who wasn't even sure what this was a couple hours ago you sure are suave," she laughs, scooting further over.
"This is just bottled up emotions," he shrugs, "be honest, does this make you uncomfortable?"
"Um," she breathes in, "no. You are someone that I never knew I wanted more than a friendship with until now. Yeah it'll be a little strange at first, we grew up together. But I want this."
"Good," he nudges her, "eat your ice cream."
They finish eating and he walks her home after they bicker about it for 15 minutes and he insisted. When they get to her house and she starts up the porch, he catches her wrist and pulls her closer.
"What are you doing?" She giggles.
"I was gonna kiss you until you ruined the moment," he laughs.
"Mmm," she sighs, "I don't kiss on the first date. Maybe next time," she shrugs, ducking out of his arms.
"Next time?" He asks, smiling as she goes inside.
I hope you're all enjoying! This might be the last update today.
