Chapter 12*Colton*
I was waiting outside of the doctor’s office. I had made sure that there was doctors room in the house. We couldn’t be making trips to the hospital every week. Tala’s scream rang out and every part of me wanted to rush inside and hold her but I knew I couldn’t. For some reason having your mate around stops the female from giving birth so it wouldn’t help to have me in there.
Tala had gone into labor after my kiss and I couldn’t help but feel guilty. I knew Tala was going to go into labor soon but I had no idea it would be this soon. She was screaming and crying and I had to lock every one of my muscles to stop myself from going in there. It was agonizing to hear my mate in so much pain. She was so young.
A whine escaped me and I felt horrible. ‘Mate is fine’ my wolf said to me.
‘I know but I still worry about her.’
‘Mate is giving us child. She’s fine.’ My wolf’s reassurance helped some.
The hours went by and Tala’s screams continued. What they were they doing in there?
After the fourth hour a woman came out. She was one of the nurses that the doctor had hired to help him. She came out with a big smile on her face. I jumped to my feet and went right to her. “How is she? How is Tala? Is the baby okay?”
“She’s fine. The baby is okay. They are both resting right now.”
My heart thudded in my chest. “So I’m a dad?”
She grinned at me. “Yup.”
I howled in excitement. Finally I’m a dad. “Can I go see her?”
Her grin faded some. “I’m sorry but for a couple days you need to leave Tala and the baby alone. They are both weak. You may not realize it but you have power emanating off of you. It would hurt them if you saw them right now.” I nodded and she went back inside. I tried to peek inside the door as she walked in but all I could see was the doctor.
For days I sat outside of that room waiting for when I could see my mate and my baby. The doctor stayed with her, though from what he told me Tala and the baby were both sleeping a lot.
Four days later the doctor said I could finally see them. I was bouncing with anxiety. I needed to see them. I opened the door and on the bed off to the side I saw Tala sleeping. She was curled up like she usually slept. Where was the baby? I slowly walked closer and I saw curled in her arms was a little baby. My little baby. As I got closer I saw the baby clearer. He was adorable. My son was the cutest thing I had seen besides his mother. I stopped at the edge of the bed and stared at them both.
The baby began to move. His little eyes opened and I saw the same gray eyes that I have look at me. I smiled at him and he smiled back. I reached out, and I was about to grab him when a hand came on my arm, stopping me. It was the doctor. “You can’t take him yet. All werewolf children need to make a bond with their mother before they can be held by anyone else.” I took my hand back and just looked at my son.
I pulled a chair over and sat there watching and waiting for Tala to wake up. She eventually did later on. My pulse quickened and my heart was racing. I sat right up. Tala took hold of our son and then sat up. “When can I see…Colton” she said happily once she saw me. I smiled at her. She was cradling our baby in her arms and he had drifted back to sleep.
“Good morning mama.” Her smile widened. “That little boy in your arms needs a name. Did you have anything in mind?”
“Yeah, what do you think about Micah?” It was a good name.
“I like it. How about Micah William Hayes?”
Tala nodded. “It’s perfect.” Tala looked down at the little creature in her arms dreamily. “My little Micah.” Without warning I whined. I was dying to hold him. Tala looked at me surprised. “Oh do you want to hold him?” She asked it like she thought I would never want to hold him.
“Yes, but I can wait. You need to make sure you make a bond.” Tala smiled at me.
“Here you can take him.” I got up and slowly went over to her. I took my son from his mother’s arms and cradled his tiny body against mine. He was tiny and adorable. I could see a little of Tala in him. I smiled at him as I sat down on the bed. Tala moved closer and laid her head on my shoulder. We were really a family now.
4 Years Later
Tala, Micah and I were going home from a pack gathering. Pack gatherings were when every pack in the area came together and we all talked and got to know the other packs. On every other day but this one the packs didn’t like each other, but today was a day of friendship and celebration. It’s basically a great big outdoor party that ends with everyone shifting and pledging their loyalty to the king and queen. Tala got to see her family and I could tell she had missed them. Nate had found his mate a few months after Micah was born and it was obvious he was happy. They had been together for a while and had two boys. They were a year apart and still pretty young. When Tala’s mother saw we were there, she came right over and stole Micah away like she always did. Her father came over to say hello and then went over with all the other older men.
When my parents found us they both hugged Tala, and my mother hugged me. She was immediately distracted with finding Micah and spoiling him with yet another gift she had gotten him.
It had been a good day and Micah had made a few friends with some of the other werewolves around his age. We were driving home after a long day. The sun had set and Micah had drifted off to sleep.
“I can’t believe how big Alexander is getting” Tala said. Nate’s oldest son was Alexander and the younger one was Eric. They both looked a lot like Nate.
“Yeah he has gotten big.”
We were driving when suddenly a car hit us and we were pushed off the road. I blackout after my head was slammed into the steering wheel.
I woke up to pain all over my body. My head was pounding. I made a move and pain shot up my body. I winced and slowly looked down. Shit. The gear shift had been broken off and stabbed me in the side. I reached down, ignoring the pain in my arm and yanked it out. It hurt like hell but I needed to get it out. I wouldn’t heal with it in my body.
I looked over and the passenger seat was empty. The door was gone, completely torn off of the car. My heart beat was going crazy and worry filled me. I looked back and Micah was in his seat. I struggled my way out of my seat and then slowly got Micah out. I looked at the car and it looked totaled. Damn it. Where is Tala? I went to the other side and saw nothing that would even hint to where Tala was. Her scent wasn’t anywhere, and there weren’t any foot prints. My mate is gone.
