Hey guys! Like I said in the earlier chapters, I'll be doing a separate chapter on the abo au I'm using in the fic as long as someone comments or dms me a request! And i received a couple of requests through dms and comments, so here's what I hope is a thorough explaination of the abo au I've adopted in this fic!!!

note: i'm not expert in the area, so do feel free to give any constructive criticism if you spot any errors!

ALPHAS
They're at the top of the pack hierachy, are generally more treasured and respected by society (especially alpha males) and tend to be given more opportunities at higher positions in companies/ school committees. Just think of it in the context of them being the average white male in today's society (I'm just using it as an example guys HAHHAHA)

There are both male and female alphas, although the latter is a rarity and only forms a very small percentage of the alpha population. Alphas have scents and can detect scents and pheromones given off by other alphas and omegas. Alpha scents are typically like the 'manlier' or richer scents eg whiskey, cedar. They tend to be bigger and broader physically than omegas and betas, since their bodies are meant to pack on muscle thanks to their hormones but there are exceptions, for example Yoongi, who's shorter in stature than Tae. Majority of the alphas have loud personalities (? not sure if that's how you would describe that), but then of course, you also have the shy ones eg Jungkook, but he's a little bipolar in terms of switching from a shy lil pup to an alpha male. You'll see in the following chapters.

For the alpha males, they're also more blessed in the dick department as compared to beta and omega males. They're the only ones capable of knotting. I won't be delving into female alphas here, because firstly, I won't really be mentioning female alphas in this story, and secondly, I'm not too sure on how female alphas work, so you'll have to google that if you're interested in that! Thanks to their hormones, alphas have bigger canines, which come out during their ruts/ their omega's heat.

Alphas can only mate with omegas, since omegas are biologically built to take an alpha's knot, which is a gland at the base of the penis which can expand to 'lock' the alpha and omega together. It basically helps to increase chances of pregnancy as it keeps the semen in the omega. Betas aren't able to do that, and hence cannot attract alphas and vice versa as it's Man's (or in this case, Wolf's????) primal instinct to procreate, and since alphas cannot breed betas, the chances of a beta and alpha pairing is almost 0%. Same for alpha and alpha pairings. Same sex pairings between alphas and omegas are common and accepted by society (if only ours was like that sigh). Male alphas can impregnate male omegas, but for female alphas to impregnate female or male omegas naturally, the chances are extremely low, hence invitro fertilisation has to happen.

BETAS
Betas are in the middle of the pack hierachy, and are more biologically related to the average human than to wolves. Unlike alphas and omegas, betas don't have scents or pheromones, and likewise, cannot detect scents or pheromones. Betas are smaller in build than alphas, and are bigger than some omegas only. I guess you could see them as the most average out of the three types, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, because betas don't get affected by all that hormone bullshit like alphas and omegas do.

Betas cannot knot, and likewise, cannot take a knot, hence beta x alpha pairings are impossible. Beta x beta pairings are the most common. Beta x omega pairings, while rare, are not impossible as beta males still can breed female/ male omegas (although chances of pregnancy are much lower compared to alpha x omega pairings). This pairing mostly tends to be heterosexual, with the beta male always being the one to impregnate the omega, since omega males cannot breed the other party. However, there are still same sex couples, just that like the female alpha x female omega pairing, in vitro fertilisation has to be done if the female omega wants to get pregnant. Of course, there are couples who don't feel the need breed at all, but majority of the population does so.

OMEGAS
Omegas are ranked the lowest in the pack hierachy and while they're not hated on by society, they're not exactly loved either. Pups present as either alphas/omegas from the ages of 16 to 18, and males who present as omegas aren't exactly the pride of the family (betas don't present, if a pup doesn't present by his/her 18th birthday, they're immediately assumed to be a beta). But of course, society's generally more accepting of omegas now, with more laws put in place to protect omegas. It's just a couple of old-fashioned assholes who still think that omegas are only useful for housework and breeding and nothing else.

Omegas tend to be females, with a small percentage comprising of males. They, like alphas, have and can detect scents and pheromones, but unlike alphas, omegas have sweeter or more mellow scents in general eg lavendar, honey. Omegas have the smallest build out of the 3 'classes'. Female omegas tend to be more voluptous than their beta and alpha counterparts, and male omegas don't build muscle easily, in addition to not being so blessed in the downstairs department. That's why omega x omega pairings are nonexistent, since male omegas don't have the ability to breed female omegas.

MATING
Mating is a very important life event for alphas, betas and omegas, and it allows the mated pair inside each other's minds to feel what their mate is feeling (something like telepathy but emotions-wise).

The breaking of a mating bond is a very painful process, which is why it's not an easy decision to make, especially for couples who aren't each other's soulmates. It happens when a mated couple doesn't have any contact for an extremely long period of time, which can range from 10 to 15 years. Of course, it's an extremely painful process, which often takes a toll on the separated couple both physically and mentally. I don't really know how to describe it exactly in words, but I did mention it in 'Begin', where I wrote about Jimin's parents breaking their mating bond.

Now, back to how mating actually happens. For alphas and omegas, they can only mate during the alpha's rut or omega's heat, when the alpha sinks his/her canines into the omega's scent gland in their neck as the alpha knots the omega, which is extremely painful when done outside of the heat/rut, that's why this mainly happens during the heat/rut. This only leads to the couple being half-mated as another bite will need to be delivered to the scent gland on the omega's wrist, and both bites will fade into a permanent scar over time. It's sort of like a safety precaution since half bonds are much easier to break than full bonds. Mating bites can too be delivered by omegas but it's more of 'for show' instead of it really having any effect. Also, mating bites are only able to form bonds when there is mutual consent between both parties.

For betas, they don't leave mating bites since it's the same as someone just biting into your neck and drawing blood during sex (that would be weird. but hey, if you're into that). Instead what happens between betas is that they imprint on each other as they spend more time with each other.
