Are you Insane? Chapter Six: Come Here Often?

It has been several weeks since that session with Dr. D. All I remember is waking up in my bed in a daze and seeing Marie lying in her bed safe and sound, and alive; as if the past several hours never happened. Dr. D won’t tell me what happened after I blacked out and I’ve since stopped pestering about it.

This evening was a particularly rough one. All night I tossed and turned and awoke from nightmares drenched in sweat. Finally I couldn’t take it anymore and stopped trying. I stood up in a daze and made my way to the door. Under the pretense of using the restroom I roamed the halls. I was alone to my thoughts; a dangerous thing. At any sign of weakness my ‘friends’ can take over.

While I hear many voices, there are three prominent characters. These characters are very different from my hallucinations. There is Cornelia, a serial killer in her mid-twenties from the early thirties. Alissa is a younger child who has been abused severely by her parents. Lastly there is Esther. Esther is my most prominent character. She is loud, demanding, and relentless in her quest to make me do her bidding. Any crack in my foundation can bring her on. My previous psychiatrist said that my other personalities stemmed from emotions and fears deep down in my psyche. What a load.

My hallucinations however, do more damage to me than my ‘friends’ ever would. On brink of not knowing what is real and what is made up is one terrifying thing. Generally speaking I can decipher between the two. My hallucinations have been more frequent in the past several months. The line between reality and insanity is quickly becoming miniscule. So miniscule, that I often get caught up in the insanity. I, unlike many others that have the misfortune of being in my position, rarely make an effort to control my episodes. What’s the point in denying my true self?

I continue wandering the hall until I reach the recreation room. The rec room is one of the few rooms in this institution that have a view. With many bay windows, it’s a prime spot to sit and have a nice chat. Every now and then when the room is practically uninhabited I sit and let my walls down. More recently Esther has been much more demanding than usual. Previously it has been silly things. Start the fire in the school bathroom. That was her doing. Since then I have let her out more than I usually would. My resolve is slowly wavering. Tonight she is just waiting to be let out. Don’t you like me anymore? She knows I’m very fond of her. Then why can’t I come out and play more. You always keep my locked up. She also doesn’t understand that many people fear her. It’s not my fault your friends are weaklings. A week or so after my incident I was having a particularly rough time. Esther took advantage of that and unleashed herself on Marie and Bri. Thankfully after the initial shock of being lashed out at, they understood. Since then they aren’t particularly fond of Esther. I’m not fond of them either to be honest. They don’t like to play my games.

I sighed and glanced out the window. It was around 2:37 in the morning and the surrounding forest was illuminated by the dim light of the moon. In the reflection of the window I could see the orderlies walking the halls and decided it was time to leave. With one last look out the window I turned to leave. I stopped in my tracks when I noticed a shadowy figure sitting in a recliner in the corner of the room. The moonlight wasn’t enough to see the entire figure by. I noticed the torn clothing however and I knew immediately who it was. The figure stood up and walked into a direct beam of moonlight. I threw him a smile as he stalked over to where I was stood. There was a sort of amusement in his sunken, cold, black eyes.

"Fancy a chat?"

*** Well that's it! My return! It certainly isn't as long and not as interesting as I had hoped but there it is! I hope you enjoy and read/vote/comment! I'd love to know what you think! This also isn't edited so I apologize for any mistakes! Also the italics indicate Esther speaking. Thanks if you are still a fan of the story and I am truly sorry for the long hiatus! Thanks again!*****
