I can't sleep, everytime I close my eyes I see that monster on Tanya's face.
"Chester? Are you awake?" Tanya yells from down the stairs.
"Yeah I'm just getting some work done." I hear the pitter-patter of her feet come down the stairs.
"Chester it is three in the morning, come back to bed." as her sentence ends, I hear barking come from behind me. Turning to see only Tanya standing there I ask,
"Tanya, did you just hear that?" She gives me a confused look and shakes her head.
"Chester it's late just come back upst-"
"Did you hear the barking?!" Her faces goes blank and her lips began to quiver.
"Apollo is dead Chester. There was no barking." Tanya simply turns ascend up the stairs. When I hear the door to our room slam shut, I cross my arms at my work desk and close my eyes. I'm afraid to fall asleep, but I can't hold my eyes open anylonger.
She kneels down to become eye level with me and whispers, "You're welcome." before driving the knife back into my torso.
I jump up and realize that I am still sitting at work desk, where I fell asleep last night. I don't call out for Tanya, instead, I can hear her voice coming from basement. Walking over to the basement door her voice becomes more clear. I open the basement door and slowly creep down the stairs trying not to make any noise. As I descend further into the basement I can tell that Tanya is talking to someone on the phone.
"He barely sleeps. He keeps hearing things. I know him." Tanya sounds panicked. "It's too soon. He can't find out after a week. His last reset lasted a month!" Who is she talking to? Is she talking about me? I walk down a few more steps. The last one squeeks.
"Chester?" Tanya yells for me, but I'm already on my way back up the stairs.
"I think he heard me. Shit. I think it's time to reset him."
I start to run not caring if she hears me. Running into the kitchen I duck behind the island in the middle and open our drawer for knives.
"Chester? Baby are you in here?" She walks into the kitchen and stops across from where I am sitting. She can't see me, so I try to remain completely still.
"Damn it. Chester! We need to talk." I hear her run upstairs toward our bedroom. I grab a knife from the drawer and follow after her.
Author's note:
So this is a piece I started (and kinda finished) in my senior year of high school. I want it to turn into something much bigger than it is now, but I want to get a reaction to the concept before pouring my blood, sweat, and tears (literally) into this book. I am really hoping to get feedback on this and turn it into something much longer for you guys. Thank you for reading!!
