" How do I look? "

Caitlyn twirled around in front of the mirror on her side of the room as I finished combing my hair back into a sleek ponytail.

It was finally Friday, aka, team tryouts day and I had hardly been able to get through classes, too nervous and constantly rehearsing over my strength and weaknesses on both Gracie and Cobalt.

Caitlyn didn't seem at all nervous and as she twirled around in front of me, I couldn't help but admire how calm she was acting, and her style of course. Stark white breeches tucked into polished leather tall boots and a soft pink turtleneck sweater. The forecast had been calling for and early winter so the weather outside had changed drastically in the past week. Girls went from wearing jeans and t-shirts to leggings and cute sweaters and the boys wore beanies with fall jackets. Back home the boys at my old school would stay in t-shirts until the first snow day, but at Canterwood, everyone seemed more...classy and stylish.

I glanced in the direction of my closet. All I had for winter wear was oversized sweaters and jackets from 3 years ago. Most of my money went to Gracie and Cobalt so I made clothes work until they started to fall apart.

I turned my gaze back to Caitlyn and smiled. " You look like advanced team material " I tried to keep the nervous tone out of my voice.

Caitlyns' smile widened and she turned to face me. " I feel like advanced team material! Especially now that we won't have to worry about Missy and her group messing us up "

" What do you mean? "

" Remember how we planned to hide their tack from them the day before tryouts? "

My eyes widened. I had honestly forgotten about the plan with all the activity of the first week of school.

Caitlyn continued speaking. " Well, last night when I was untacking Promise I managed to hide their bridles in the hayloft! It'll take them forever to find them! "

I bit my lip. Even though Missy was probably the least friendly rider in the barn, she deserved a fair chance to tryout just like everyone else.

I kept my mouth shut though about it. Caitlyn and I were practically best friends now, and I didn't want anything to jeopardize that, even if it was something I knew was wrong.

" So, have you decided what you're going to wear? " Caitlyn asked as she sat down on her bed.

I stood and glanced at my reflection in the mirror. I also had on white breeches, but they were faded since they were years old. My boots had a few scuffs on them despite hours of polishing yesterday and I hadn't even picked a top to wear yet.

I sighed. " I have no idea what top to pick...I want something that screams 'future advanced rider'

" Then try this! "

I turned just in time to catch a black turtleneck Caitlyn tossed at me.

My eyes widened as I felt the soft material. " Are, Are you sure? I don't want to get this dirty or ruined "

She waved a hand at me. " It doesn't fit me anymore, so you can have it. Think of it as a present for when you make the team "

I smiled as I hugged her before quickly changing into the sweater. Tucking the bottom into my breeches, it tied my whole look together.

" See? You look amazing! "

" Thank you so much! " I replied. " When we make the team I will so be taking you to the Sweet Shoppe to celebrate "

" Perfect! "

We picked up our helmets and gloves, before heading down to the stable, which was stuffed with practically all the riding students at Canterwood.
