When they dashed out of the dilapidated house, hundreds of them had already begun encircling the source of the noise. "Damn, they are fast," Jay observed. He stood in awe of their horrid beauty. How could something so horrendous be so beautiful, he mused. Suddenly, one of them caught sight of him and let out a war-like screech. The horde snapped their heads in his direction all at once. He stood paralyzed with fear, until DJ had dragged him behind a nearby car. "What the fuck were you thinking?!" she whisper-shouted. He crouched, still motionless. "What's wrong?" she asked. He faced her, then fear overtook DJ. "Damnit! They have you!" she cried.

DJ took his hand and led him into a nearby house. "Stay here," she ordered, "I'll break their hold on you."

At this, she thought of a way to lure them far away so their hold on Jay would be released.  An idea occurred to her. If I find a working car, I could turn the radio and alarms on, put it in neutral, and push it down a hill! She concluded. While she was thinking this over, the horde had moved into the nearby woods, possibly because they heard other people or a building finally collapsing. She breathed a sigh of relief. Good. Now all I have to do is get Jay out of here, she thought. When she returned to Jay, she was surprised that he was still there. "Come on buddy," she said hoisting him up. "Let's get you back to base."
