Olivia Parsons POV

James and I made eye contact and it seemed like time froze. He was wearing an expensive suit and looked handsome as always. I cleared my throat and looked at Caleb who was smiling from ear to ear.

"Hi I'm sorry Caleb is late. Something came up this morning and we got held back"

"It's alright Mr. Harrison. We just finished introducing ourselves in class. Caleb say goodbye to your dad and take a seat next to Zack" I said pointing to a boy across the room with an empty seat next to him.

"Again I'm sorry for Caleb's tardiness. I better take my leave now. Goodbye Ms. Parsons" James said smirking and left.

Why was he smirking? Was there something on my face? I consciously wiped my cheek and focused on the class.

"Well now that everyone is here why don't we have Caleb introduce himself and then we can start the day" I said with a smile.

Throughout half of the day in class we learned about the alphabet, words, and colors. We also sang songs and had coloring activities.

By the time it was lunch, I lined up my students and took them to the cafeteria and then headed to the teachers lounge to eat.

I got my food out and began eating at the table. My mind pondered back to when James and Caleb showed up late to class.

I guess it's a small world seeing them again and having Caleb in my class. Was it fate? No it couldn't be. I think I'm just overthinking things.

"Hey Olivia, how's your first day going?" Ali said sitting next to me and breaking me out of my thoughts.

"It's going great. All the kids are nice and I haven't had any problems with them so far. How about yours?"

"My class is great. Everything seems to be good" Ali replied.

"That's good Ali. Hopefully our classes won't be too chaotic at the end of the school year"

"I hope so too"

We continued our lunch and kept talking until lunch break was over and then headed back to our classrooms. We had about two hours of school left.

For the remaining time of the class we did art activities.

Everything went well until a fight broke out between two boys. I went over to them and noticed it was Caleb and another boy named Aiden.

"Hey you two what's going on here?" I said separating them and getting down to their level.

"I was drawing a picture of me and my dad and Aiden says I don't have a mommy because she doesn't love me" Caleb said looking sad.

It broke my heart to see him like this. I didn't know if it was true saying that he didn't have a Mom. I turned to Aiden with a stern face.

"Aiden that's not a nice thing to say. Please apologize to Caleb"

Aiden looked down at his feet and glanced at Caleb.

"I'm sorry Caleb for saying that you don't have a mommy"

"Don't say something if you don't have anything nice to say Aiden. You can really hurt someone. Now get back to your work"

I turned to Caleb and he was sniffing and crying. I went to him and guided him to a secluded area in the room. I got down to his level and lifted his chin up.

"Hey you ok buddy?" I asked softly.

He shook his head and tears started to roll down his face. We made eye contact and next thing I know Caleb's arms were wrapped around my neck while he cried.

I was caught off guard with the suddenness but I returned the hug. I patted his back while he cried and whispered soothing words.

After a few minutes he stopped crying and was hiccuping. I pulled away and wiped his tear stained face.

"Everything is going to be alright. No more crying ok. Now where is that adorable smile of yours" I said tickling him trying to make him laugh.

I succeeded and Caleb giggled with a twinkle in his eyes. I took him back to his desk and he went back to coloring. I walked around to check up on the kids and everything seemed fine.

I glanced at the clock and it was time to go home. We cleaned up the room and the kids lined up by the door. I lead them out to the parking area and waited with them until their parents came to pick them up. Everyone was gone except for Caleb.

"Caleb is someone coming to pick you up?" I said turning to him.

"Yes my daddy is coming"

"Ok we will wait a bit more then"

I looked at my watch and saw it has been about 30 minutes that has gone by. Does this man not know that he has a child to pick up or what?

I was tired and wanted to go home. I sighed and sat down on at the bench with Caleb and we talked about his dog Max.

A few minutes later a sleek black car pulled up and out came James.
