- Soonyoung
Six years ago.
A boy with dark brown hair walked out of the airport. I think that's him, I hope it is.
I tapped his shoulder, making him jump a bit and turn around.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you."
"It's okay." He said, a bit of an accent in his voice.
"Are you... Seo Myungho.. By any chance?" I asked.
The boy nodded.
"I'm Soonyoung. I guess you'll be staying with me for this first school year?" I asked as I smiled to the boy.
He nodded, a smile plastered on the boys face.
Present time.
6:30 PM
MONDAY"I'm so tired!" I yelled as we entered our shared apartment.
Minghao rolled his eyes. "When are you not tired after practice?"
"I'm taking a nap."
"Don't sleep for three hours like last time. I'll wake you when foods ready."
I nodded and went to my room.
I swear, sometimes I feel we act like a married couple.
I lied down on my bed, falling asleep quickly.
*
My door creaked open, and I was shook lightly.
"Soonyoung, it's time to wake up."
It was Minghao, who else, would it have been?
"Ugh... I don't wanna.." I mumbled, unsure if he could hear it.
"Come on. Your food will get cold." He shook me again.
"Fine." I mumbled, stretching my arms out.
I followed him to the kitchen and sat down at the dining table.
We began eating. It was silent as there was nothing to talk about.
"Let's go do something." I said.
"Like what?" Minghao asked.
"Like... A walk somewhere?"
"Alright." He nodded his head.
We changed into some warmer clothes, and left the apartment, making sure to lock the door behind us.
The sun was just going down, and the sky was a light pink color fading into an orange.
We walked to a small park near an ice cream shop.
I stopped, looking up. "Should we head back? It looks like it's gonna rain soon."
He thought. "Maybe in a bit."
"Are you sure?"
"It's just a little rain, it won't hurt."
"Alright."
It was silent.
"Ming?" I asked.
"Hmm..?"
"It's raining.."
"Huh, so it is."
"Let's head back now."
"Alright."
We began the long journey back home, walking together with our hands intertwined.
We made it about halfway home, before Minghao broke the small, yet comfortable silence.
"I like this." He said.
I looked at him, confused. The rain had cleared by now, and it was almost dark out.
"This." He held up our intertwined hands. "It's nice."
He smiled, and I smiled back, nodding in agreement. The rest of the way was just us laughing, with him pointing out small things, like the shape of the rocks, or a street lamp that flickered.
When we got home, we changed out of our wet clothes, and we put dry clothes on.
It was 3 am, and we were in the our room, playing Mario Kart.
"Stop throwing those goddamn red shells!" Minghao yelled.
I just laughed. "I'm good."
We played the game for another three hours until he was finally satisfied with winning on rainbow road.
"Oh shit. It's fucking six in the morning." I said, once I finally looked up at the clock from the very intense Mario Kart three hour game play marathon.
"Should we go to bed?" Minghao asked. I sighed.
"What would be the point if we're just gonna sleep all day and then wake up in the middle of the night?"
"True. I'm not even tired, either."
"True."
"So, what do you wanna do?"
"Hmm... We get way to competitive with games, so we can't do that.."
"Let's go out somewhere."
"But where the fuck would we go at 6 in the morning?"
"I don't know..."
"Uh.. Ming?" I had no idea how I was gonna ask this question.
"Hmm..?"
"I... Um.. Uh, why did you st- stay here?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean like, it was supposed to be.. Like just for the first year of high school... Right? But, why did you stay..?"
"Did you.. Not want me to?"
"No, no! It's nothing like that." I waved my hands frantically in an 'X' shape. "I'm just... Curious, is all."
"Ah, well.. I guess I just like it here.. The atmosphere is different, and my dad wanted me to live on my own.. Haha, I guess he just wanted me out of the house. Um.. He texted me the night before I was supposed to leave, that he didn't want me back.. That he was leaving and he wasn't coming back, either. So there was really no point on me leaving, if I was just going to be alone again." He looked down.
Alone? I thought, with no intention on asking any further questions, yet I did.
"What do you mean?" I asked. I hadn't meant to ask that, but it just came out.
"Ah... Well, my father wasn't really around.. At home, and he was always working or not being a good parent, so it was just another reason to come here. It's easier, in a way..."
"How so?"
"Like, with you here, it's just less lonely, I guess.. I have you around, and you care for me so much... Even though I don't deserve it.."
"But you do. You do deserve it, and if I've told you once, I've told you ten million times; Minghao you deserve everything you have, and will get. If you don't see that, I'll find a way for you to believe that."
"Why?"
"'Why?' Did you seriously ask me, 'why?'? Minghao, it's because.."
