I immediately stand up and rush over to Reese and Luca, checking to see if they were okay.
Leaning over Reese, I look at his arms, scratches new, the tips of his wings in tatters.
Covering my mouth so I don't let out a sob, I walk over to Luca to check him.
Luca lay there, his wings bloody, a cut above his eyebrow new and still wet, one of the wings that once were held high now bend wrongly, limp, laying underneath him.
I put my ear next to his mouth, hoping for the best. I hear faint breaths and let out a breath in relief.
I kiss his cut eyebrow ad Reese's arm and sit back down on my table, my head in my hands, tears running down my face.
How did we get it this way? I don't blame Reese, no one here does. It was a mistake anyone could make, but now, it's on his shoulders.
I hear a whisper, "Hey? Hayden?"
I flinch and look over my shoulder to see a group of Seeker's, the ones who were caught before everyone else. They motion for me to move next them. I stand up, walk over and crouch next to all fifty of them. Well, forty-nine, Rese is still faint.
"Yo, Hayden?"
I recognize the voice as a friend of Reese's, his name was Adam, I think.
"Huh? Wha?"
He looked nervous as he looked at me, unusual for him, as he's usually very confident and happy about everything.
"Well, we heard, cause like, we woke up a while ago, that numbers 248,249, and 250 all have very different DNA than the rest of us and that you guys would be taken away and separated from the rest of us."
My eyes widen, and my jaw drops, ice water filling the back of my throat.
"But like, we don't know for sure. We have until tomorrow to know, like, yeah."
I gulp down the ice water and pasted a fake smile on my lips and nodded. I walked back to my table and sighed, laying back down and covering my eyes with my hand, falling back into slumber, praying for this all to be a dream.
God, how I wish it was a dream.
