I felt paralyzed. I couldn't move. Daisy dragged her knife along my arm, and I felt my hot blood trace it's way to the cold snow. . Is this it? I thought. Is this where I die?
Apparently not. Maya
stole the letter from my hands and pressed it against Daisy's distracted back.
She shrieks in pain. "Come play..." she yelled to Maya. "Looks like I need to punish you!" She said, giggling insanely.
Daisy grasped Maya's arm and pulled her back 20 feet or so. She began to kill my sister.
Maya screamed in pain. Her eyes and mouth leaked blood. Then, Daisy just stopped. She frowned and disappeared.
I ran over to Maya sobbing. She was breathing- her heart beating slowly. Her eyes were closed. I looked at her arm and gasped.
It was decaying. The skin was black and dead, and you could see her yellow bone. The skin surrounding it was deep purple, gradually fading into red. That was where Daisy touched her arm.
As I was looking at it, the decay was spreading up her arm. Her eyes fluttered open and she whispered, "She got me. Leave before it's too late."
"No!" I sobbed. "I won't!"
"You have to." Maya took another shuddering breath and closed her eyes.
I picked up her limp body and carried her to the camp. I didn't know what to do- the decay was spreading. So I ripped a piece of my blanket and wrapped it right around her arm. I did the same for my injury.
Taking out two apples, I woke up Max and Gale. We ate a breakfast of fruit and bread. While we were eating, I filled them in on what had happened.
"Is she going to be ok?" Max asked.
"I don't know." I replied.
"Ask Daisy!" Said Gale, speaking up.
"Ask me what?" Daisy replied. I looked at her and closed my eyes.
Her flesh was sagging off her skin. She was missing fingers, and her leg was bent the wrong way. "She did this to you?" I said.
"Yes,"Said Daisy grimacing. "But it doesn't matter. It will be over for me soon. What do you want to know?"
"How to fix Maya." Max stated.
Daisy glanced at her and frowned. "You let her touch you?" We shook our heads and she said, "Well- duh. No. But she obviously touched Maya," - We nodded- "So then she is rotting."
"Yes, but how to we do solve it!" Max yelled, annoyed.
"There is no way."
"Maya gone?" Asked Gale.
I nodded slowly and said, "But we will avenge her. We will. But we have to do it TOGETHER! We will kill Daisy TOGETHER! We can fix this- TOGETHER!"
"Yeah!" Yelled Gale, crying.
Max was crying too. "WE WILL KILL YOU, DAISY!"
We all agreed.Daisy was going down.
We packed up all the supplies and started to leave. Not before we said our goodbyes to Maya.
"Maya- I love you more than words can describe. You are honorable and brave. You make everyone around you smile. You are my rock, Maya... I will miss you. I- I love you."
"Love you- m- more." She said, gasping in pain.
Gale came next, then Max. Maya said, slowly, "Kill me. The pain- it is to much."
I began to cry but I nodded. I took out the knife in my pack and looked at Maya. I leaned down, chest heaving, And I hugged her tightly.
"Thank you..." She said.
"Your welcome. I love you." I closed my eyes and brought the blade down on her heart. I felt it stop, and I pushed harder. There was a squelching sound. I yelled out loud and jumped up and turned away. I didn't hear her breathing. Her death was a quick one. Better than Daisy could have offered her.
Gale ran over to me and grabbed my hand. She cried with me, and Max took charge. He was affected most of all- even if it didn't seem like it in the surface. He was so traumatized by everything that he almost lost all emotions. It was sad, and scary. But really, that was what everything was in my life.
We followed the steady trail of blood through the snowy forest.I'm so sorry this was such short chapter. I just want to slow the story down a little. Just know, I will be updating every other day. 💎🎀
