Carl's POV:
"Dad." I say, walking up to the canteen of the prison.
"Yes, Carl?" His voice was shaky, on the edge almost.
"Is Mum really..pregnant?" I ask, it's not a bad thing, but by the state my dad is in, I'm presuming it isn't his baby.
He just nods, his fingers fiddling with one another, as his eyes trail along the floor.
"Is it your baby?" I ask, taking a seat next to him.
It's an intrusive question, but I needed to know to put my mind at rest, I couldn't have thought of my mother being capable of an affair, but I may have thought wrong.
"I don't think so." My dad replies, his eyes becoming glossy, as he blinks away the tears.
"It's okay." I say, placing my arm around him, but as I do that, he flips me into a strong, meaningful hug, one that I haven't had from my dad for a long time.
I walk out of the canteen, and into my cell, placing myself onto the mattress.
One less thing of your mind, Carl. Could it be one more thing to worry about? Where's the group? Are they dead? Did they send themselves on a suicide mission? Where's Lauren? Is She Dead?
I try to shut out all of the bad thoughts, but it was no use. They were like a stampede, forcing their way into my mind, not finding a way out.
I lay down, my back to the cell door, as I hear footsteps approaching.
"Carl?"
It was Mum.
"What?" I spit at her, anger and frustration in my tone of voice.
"Are you okay?" She asks, approaching closer.
"You should be asking Dad that question." I say.
"I'm sorry. I-"
"Who's baby is it?" I spit out, interrupting her apology.
"It's Shanes. I'm sorry baby."
At that moment, I'd taken enough for one day, I storm out of the room, storm past my pregnant mother, and storm out of the prison.
How could she be carrying Shanes baby? He was my dad's best friend, and now, he's almost like my step-father. My own mum.
As I walk out of the prison, I walk along the dusty trail, my feet crunching the twigs as I stamp forwards.
My mind wasn't the best place right now, I need something, to bring me back.
