The formerly mentioned Daveed was on his way home at that very instant, rushing, speeding, and sweating with worry.

His worry was for two reasons. Rafael Casal was known to be a spontaneous man, who was to say he wouldn't show up and do something to Daveed's beloved Adeline? But the second reason was to distract himself from the demons that were gnawing at his consciousness.

His attraction to Rafa, which had buzzed at the back of his mind for years no matter how hard he pushed the notion away,

And her.

His second cousin, his pupil, his friend.

All of a sudden her description of "The girl he loved" took on a new meaning.

In a way, he wasn't to blame. She had always reminded him of his first girlfriend, a girl of 14 who was mature in her decisions, but who could burst into hearty laughter at the drop of a hat. Ashlee.

He was cold then. A young teen hardened by Chicago, and by the angstiness of life in general. She was a light. A fighter, too. And not to mention an amazing actress. She could be as cold as ice in public, face set and back straight until she and him were alone and all was warm.

But maybe, he thought after she moved and was later killed, maybe she was acting when we were together, too.

The murmur of a possible liar in Adeline was enough for him to take her under his wing, watching her every move so that if anyone fell for her, she would treat them as well as she could.

But now, he'd left her all alone. And although she was wise beyond her years, she could still easily be manipulated and taken advantage of.

That was all that ran through his mind as he raced to his own home, hoping that no one had touched his property.

His breath hitched in his throat as he saw Rafa's car on the street.

Daveed may have come off as loud and and harsh because of his music, or akward and shy because of his interviews, but without the cameras or microphones, he was petty and stealthy, but only wished for the best.

Which is why he snuck up and through the door without being noticed, almost yelling when he saw Rafael holding Adeline. But he crept, unnoticed, until Addie spotted him.

She froze, fear, compassion, and confusion on her face at the towering man looking at her with a blank expression.

Daveed held a finger to his lips so she would be quiet before Rafa noticed something.

Blindly trusting him, she waited until he was right behind the man who was holding her to scream as she realized what he was going to do.

Rafael woke with a start as the girl yelled "Daveed, no!" Before he was knocked unconscious by Daveed's fist hitting his skull.

Said Daveed pulled Adeline off of the chair and out of the man's arms with immeasurable strength and determination and she didn't fight as he pulled her into his chest protectively.

She wanted to fight, though. She'd seen him do some bad things to people over the years, punching a bartender who was trying to drag a young man to the back, headlocking a purse snatcher. It was how he dealt with his anger. By doing good.

But this was beyond acceptable. He'd just knocked down a man he had always trusted, a man he thought could do no wrong, a man who had never hurt her.

She'd only gone limp because of the familiarity of his scent, his breathing, and the feel of his protective arms...

Well, until she bit one of them.

"What the hell?" He gasped in pain as her teeth sunk into his forearm, not nearly enough to puncture the skin, but definitely enough to leave a mark.

She broke out of his embrace and knelt down beside the other man, resembling a mother who's child had been hurt, touching the bruise lightly and examining his nose and skull.

It was almost mezmerising to watch a girl who was known for wild partying and experimental drugs to act so soft and caring. But not if you'd known her her entire life and knew that the man she clearly cared so deeply for could hurt her. Daveed stepped forward to pull her off again, but she grabbed his collar and red lipstick brushed off on his cheek and she put her mouth to his ear.

"Don't you treat Rafael with any disrespect from now on." She whispered through gritted teeth. "At least he had the decency to find out what the fuck was going on instead of running away."

Daveed flinched at her words, his pride and stubbornness failing as he tried not to be hurt by a few words.

"Don't touch me until he's awake and I'm sure he's okay. You can watch, but don't. Touch. Me." She let go of his shirt and continued to tend to Rafa while Daveed cursed her under his breath.

It was going to be a long day if that bastard woke up.
