It had been 2 weeks since Betty convinced Archie to break up with Jughead for her. 2 weeks since the Black Hood had last called her. But the worst of all for Betty, it was her first day starting at Southside high.
Betty's mother decided it was the perfect punishment for publishing the article about her mother being a Serpent. Instead of shying away from the public eye, her mother instead embraced the idea of it. In turn, that mean sending Betty to Southside high, where she "belonged."
Betty's blue eyes gazed up at the daunting school for misfits. She felt sorely out of place in her preppy cashmere sweater, tightly wound pony tail, and light blue jeans. Kids pushed passed her wearing leather, plaid, spikes, - anything but tightly fitted pink cashmere.
Taking deep breath of polluted Southside air, Betty forced her ridged legs to walk towards the steps of the school. Just breathe Betty, the blonde bombshell thought to herself. Everything will be fine. This is only temporary. Besides, Jughead goes to school here, how bad could it be?
She almost groaned at the thought of Jughead. She hadn't talked to him since that night at Pop's where they wanted to run away. She could sense something was up with him, but was too wrapped up in her own Black Hood mess that she couldn't bring herself to ask him what was up. He's been acting so weird lately, she thought as she pushed open the school doors and tried to appear invisible as she travelled down the hall. I hope he's been okay. God, I don't know if I should have broken up with him. Maybe I should have told him the truth. But how could I? It would be putting him in danger and I love him too much to do that. At least now that we're going to the same school I can see him, even if I can't talk to him.
Betty entered her first class, all eyes staring at her with confusion and disgust. Suddenly her sad girl problems about Jughead didn't seem so daunting.
"What's this Northsider doing here?" A kid yelled loudly but Betty didn't catch who it was. The entire class snickered at her.
"Settle down everyone, Betty is new here and we should all welcome her with warmth and friendship," the female teacher said without any hint of emotion.
"Go back to where you came from Northsider!" a girl yelled, this time Betty saw who it was, but it didn't matter. What was Betty going to do about it? As the girl to pretty please stop?
Lowering her head, Betty found a seat in the back of the room in the corner, burying her head in her notebook. The only thing that would get her through the morning was knowing that she could see Jughead at lunch and maybe even talk to him. She hoped it wouldn't be too much of a shock for him, he had no idea that she now shared the same school as him. She missed him dearly.
