After I had everything packed, I mounted my horse. I rode through town since it was the fastest way.
There was quite a few people out for it being midnight. I saw Dane talking to a large man. I got off my horse to go see him.
All of the sudden I heard a gunshot. Two arms went around my shoulder and pulled me to the ground. I looked up to see Wesley. Relief flooded through me.
What brought the stress back was seeing Dane on the ground. This isn't the first time I've seen him near death.
---------------
The next morning, I read the newspaper.
Dane had been shot. He died last night.
Wesley walked in and rubbed my shoulder as I began crying.
"It's okay, babe. He's in a good place now," Wesley said.
I spent the rest of the day in Wesley's arms, cuddled by the creek. He did a good job comforting me.
Welsey and I got married on the day that we planned. He kept me happy and helped me forget about Dane.
But I never did, forget. I promised Dane I wounldn't.
We still had a good family. Wesley and I toom over their family business when his dad died. We've had it every since.
Given the circumstances, I couldn't be any happier.
