Dane was still asleep. I can't wait for him to wake up so I can tell him!
His chest was rising and falling slowly. "Dane!" I whispered.
"Hmm?" I guess he wasn't asleep.
"I'm not an orphan! My dad is the governer of Kansas!"
"What!" He sat up.
"I know! He asked me to go love with him in Topeka! But a room wouldn't be ready for a few weeks so I would still be able to take care of you."
"Oh."
"So you think I should?!"
"If it makes you happy, I guess."
"Wait, so did you get the antidote?"
"Yeah."
"And you're going to be back to normal soon?"
"Yes."
"So why were you scared?"
"What do you mean?" Dane sounded worried. Like he was trying to act strong for me and he didn't want me to know.
"I saw it in your eyes. Before the antidote, I mean."
"My parents died after they were bit by a snake. And I was there when it happened. I just didn't know, since I was only a week old." Dane looked.at his feet.
"Oh. I should really learn to shut up..."
"It's okay."
We sat in silence, like we usually do when there's nothing to say. I was still processing the letter. I have a dad?!
